* I wasn't familiar with this one, it may be a new song, so I'm guessing at the name.
Blake Christiana - acoustic guitar, vocals Andrew Hendryx - mandolin, electric mandolin, harmonica Rod Hohl - electric guitar, backing vocals Rick Bugel - upright bass Bobby Bonhomme - drums
Blake wasn't kidding when he told me that this would may be the shortest set they play. We left during Lights and only missed three songs. Thanks for sharing Frank, it was nice to meet you in Wilmington.
This sounds great Frank. The New song, 5 Guitars and THe Loner are superb. My favorite quote of the night, right before Lies I Told. Blake "If you'd like to come see us play a real show, don't come to Wilmington, come see us somewhere else."
I will tell you the deal. We got there around 9 after having a few beers at a local bar. Doors were at 8, opener at nine. Blake told us when we got there that it was looking closer to eleven when they would go on. So we walked around and grabbed some food. Ricky B met up with us and we went and had another beer. We figured if we were with him we'd get to the show at the right time. So at 10:30 we went back to the venue with Rickey and sat and watched the god awful opening band. We figured they were wrapping it up when Rickey left this was around 10:50. Well the opener says we have a few more songs left and we just shook our heads. Ricky was downstairs in the comedy club. The band finally hit the stage around 11:45, we left around 12:25 and from what it looks like they ended just before 1:00 am. They don't really like Wilmington from what I gather and them not going on till that time after driving from NYC that day couldn't have given them any more warm feelings towards the place. So that's the deal Tous.
I think another funny line was when a guy named Eddie asked Blake how much bourbon it was gonna take to keep them on stage and Blake replied, "Oh I think cash money is the only thing we're gonna accept right now. I got plenty of bourbon in the van." My guess is that they don't have anything against Wilmington except that they've played two shows here now and combined less than 30 tickets were sold. The venue gave away about 20 tickets thru radio leading up to this past show and did 50 radio spots to help promote but for some reason folks just haven't shown up. I'm kinda baffled really as Wilmington is a great music town.
