    Okay, can’t sleep -
it’s after 2 am and I get on here and am again reminded how extremely long-winded I can be when I see that last “Promotion” thread surface again. Bet I’m the only one on here that hits “enter” on a comment and gets an error message that says my comment is 60,000 characters too long!
Now here’s your new place to discuss “Jesus” Although, I don’t think he needs a moniker...
I think he’s gonna be a household name.

    Link to album:
    http://airplaydirect.com/music/yarnalmosthome/

did anyone else notice that when they first put this up the genre was listed as pop? They have since changed it to Americana. I was so glad to see that “The Loner” and “Liquor Love” made it to this album... I truly think these are their two “pop” songs (if you can classify Yarn as that... I have been able to introduce a few new people to yarn by taking them to shows, so I can see reactions to different songs, knowing that they are hearing every song for the first time... Those two songs, along with Desperate Amy definitely have a hook.
I love introducing new people to Yarn and seeing their reaction, I have become somewhat of a joke nagging people to go, but they when they end up going.... they are right on board. I brought one friend to see them at the Crossroads and now she’s counting the days for Hiro. Actually I don’t think I would be making it if it wasn’t for her enthusiasm. Only problem is... every time I bring new people they ruin the show for me cause they spend the whole time shouting in my ear “these guys are f-in’ amazing...” If I had a dollar for every time I heard it at the last show I would have paid for all my families tickets.

Oh yeah... this was supposed to be about promotion
(this is my 3rd night of insomnia and putting any thought in writing with this little sleep is really kinda stupid.)

I’m hoping that the CNN people show up at the Hiro and they decide then and there that they need to make a few upscale videos for them free of charge. If they are there we need to make sure we don’t monopolize the Yarn boys time so they can work their charm on the people who can promote them the best.

Actually... maybe that's a bad idea...
I am sure the CNN people were overwhelmed by the quality of the Schenectady video, and wouldn't want to look bad in comparison.
Reckless... How did opening night go?
  1.
    We KILLED it!

....people left absolutely blown away. I couldn't be more proud of everyone. Now we have to avoid that second night letdown!

Well you are quite the promoter but I'm thinking that we both need sleep! ;) I've gotten 4hrs for about 18 of the past 20 days and man am I dragging.

I'm also already feeling the down side of Yarn's growth....of course we all wish them the HUGE dividends they deserve but a few shows a year is a lot less fun than the 15 shows a year I've been accustomed to. Can't wait for a week from tonight.....looks like we'll have a number of 5G folks there at the Hiro~

Congratulations Reckless... Glad to hear it went so well.
Remember, if things go amiss at any time, the audience doesn't really know what it was SUPPOSED to be like, so they will be happy regardless.

Yeah.. I'm the same way about Yarn's growth... but it's what's best for them, and we can't be selfish. Glad you are going. It's my experience that the kids don't need you there every night, just at least one or two. (actually, my kids always tell me not to come to their functions..."you've got better things to do with your time, mom" (perhaps they don't want me to embarrass them)
Hiro--- I will be there... have a "Stoney" shirt from years ago, but I won't be wearing it... that was 25 pounds ago... all the weight people talk about losing on this site I have seemed to find :) I will be bringing a few repeat customers, and all the rest newbies... prepare to have your recording chatted up with "these guys are amazing" banter. (sorry in advance) see you soon!

Great thread. Good luck Reckless. I don’t have kids so I have yet to do the whole function thing. I can't tell you how many times people make fun of me & the band by telling me they will knit me a sweater or how there cat likes to play with Yarn. I am taking a newbie to her 1st Yarn show at the Hiro. Hopefully she won't have to drive her grandmother across the state of Florida that day or make up some other excuses. There is a guy named Ryan who has a blog http://www.rslblog.com/ a friend of mine introduced me to his blog and told me he is a big player in the music blog world. I sent him an email about Yarn. I even tweeted him Yarn’s SXSW show and he favorite the post. Tonight is Yarn’s SXSW showcase. Austin won’t know what hit them. I feel bad for the band that has to follow Yarn. Yesterday Bruce made his keynote speech at SXSW and in my little crazy head I was waiting for him to give Yarn a plug. Sadly he did not however he did mention Americana. So it’s almost like a plug.
  2.
I still hand out Yarn but after years of catching the same tired shit about the Grateful Dead, I simply have no energy for recruiting naysayers. Some people I hand Yarn to love it instantly and others do not...it's that simple.

As for attending, ha, I've been having fun giving people shit this week about our play. "Oh I can't make it." Um, "Yes you can....let's start with your Thursday excuse and then we'll work through excuses for the four performances over the next three days." ;)

Ok, you're leaving for Mexico and won't be back till next week? then fine, you can't make it. For the rest of you, will you please just say sorry John, I'm not interested in your stupid play and I don't care to attend.

I've incited a great deal of stuttering!

I agree that Andrew does not need a nickname but on my way to work I was singing this song in my head and it dawned on me "CRAZY FINGERS"

    Reckless---
I forgot to mention you totally fell into a trap... by “killing it” you will be asked to do this again and again, potentially taking years off your life with lack of sleep and opening night stress... you blew it my friend, you should have sucked.
One weekend of embarrassment could have saved you many nights of sleep. Oh... and by the way... Tangled invited me to the play. And I can’t make it cause my dog has fleas.

Earlbny-- Sorry your friends make up lame excuses. I hope your friend does make it out and that will get the ball rolling with the rest of them. I have always been the one in my group to introduce people to music, been the ticket purchaser for shows since I was old enough to stand on line... I have yet to steer anyone wrong, so I guess that’s why it works for me... although my old friends are scattered, my new friends are open as well and word of mouth helps. I also think the CNN thing helped legitimized it a bit in peoples minds... I don’t think some of the people joining me @ Hiro would be coming if it wasn’t for that plug... then of coarse, my true friends would be have met me there even if I asked them to a Miley Cyrus concert! Part of this Hiro thing for me is just getting together with friends (no offense 5g’s people- can’t wait to meet you too) Keep asking, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. They will eventually go just to shut you the hell up and then they will be apologizing to you afterwards. Since this is the new “Jesus” thread, I’ll mention it’s Biblical...In Luke, Jesus tells of a woman who keeps on nagging a corrupt judge for justice... he eventually gives in just to get her out of his hair...
And speaking of Jesus, @ the Godfrey’s show -Ricky was getting called Bass Jesus, Boy did his new strings sound sweet. Since it was in Bethlehem Blake mentioned that it was the birthplace of Jesus and said that perhaps he was conceived at the bar I used to work at... asked me if I was bartending that night... so if he meant Andrew or Ricky he aged me 10 to 20 years, and if he meant Jesus, he aged me a couple of thousand... Either way, since I won’t be wearing any tattoos or Stoney shirts, you will be able to recognize me @ Hiro as the old chick with the very dark circles under her eyes....
This has been a most pleasant diversion for me... now back to work I go.

Glad to hear the play's off to a good start, RC! And you just wash those excuse-makers outta your hair! ;D

Shane, "Crazy Fingers" just might do it! "Life is definitely sweeter" listening to Andrew play!

I know this is supposed to be a promotions-themed thread, but I do have to take a moment to commiserate on the implications of Yarn's growth, albeit well-deserved. So happy for them that they're getting more exposure, but I really, REALLY miss catching them every three months or so :( I'm betting that Texas is going to absolutely love them, so maybe that'll mean more Raleigh shows while they're treking out and back from Texas... (Because, yes, it's all about how many shows Amy gets in a year ;)

Have a great time at the Hiro, gang - I'll be with ya in spirt! In the meantime, Stoney, RC - you two get some sleep!!!

You can still catch a Yarn show every few months. It takes a little more effort and driving but it's possible!
  5.
Brouche, I wish that were the case! I know I've belly-ached about this before, but it takes a friggin' act of Congress for me to get anywhere. No grandparents in town to watch the kids so me and the husb can travel together, no Yarn-freak friends to go roadtrippin' with... If it were just me, I'd probably be selling veggie burritos outside the Firefly RV, but as it is, I'm on a pretty short leash :) I'm a no-go for the scheduled shows in Charlotte, Asheville, and Morganton, but I think I'll see you in Greensboro next month, if nothing else - after that I'm hoping they'll play OBX again this summer so I can convince some friends to make a beach weekend out of it... I tell ya, it's rough being a Yarn junkie! :)

Whoa... why am I still not asleep? this sucks.
Yarn's at SXSW being congratulated for killing it. Reckless is coming down off the 2nd night high of his play, and I'm a sleep-deprived mental midget.
Well Amy, all I can tell you is that Blake has reasons to be in NC... you'll get your chance at other shows... And as far as the traveling/kids thing... I've been there. You will, before long, be looking back on these days wondering why your kids grew up so damn fast. Enjoy it. It is so very fleeting. (actually I'm pretty sure you are enjoying it) all very cliche, but it's true.
Shane: Never saw your comment, we must have posted almost at the same time. Crazy Fingers. Yeah, it works, but I still like "Andrew Hendryx" best. Hope I didn't offend anyone with my Dead comments... I really love the Dead, I still totally enjoy, but I've been listening to Dead songs for 30+ years now... gotta have a new outlet. And, now thanks to you all, I am remembering my old sure fire cure for insomnia when I'm overtired.... the answer was right in this thread. hitting the old tape player with a nice long Dead show >>>Space>>> thanks all and goodnight! (hopefully)

Damn! Switching to the ipod and putting it on repeat.
Now I'm now going with the OTHER sure fire cure... the right combination of pills and alcohol!
    To Sleep perchance to dream...
This is the lousiest promotions thread ever. what a waste of all your time. guess it's true what they say: misery loves company. please forgive.

    Love it Brouche.
I slept. I dreamt. I'm ready to face the day. :)

Please feel free to jump in and discuss promotions now...

If I never see Yarn again, they have already given me so much unbridled musical joy that I could never regret their success. I still listen to them every single day and we're so blessed to have such a large library of material. They deserve all the recognition in the world~
  7.
Very funny, Brouche! And I agree, Stoney, that this is not the best promotions thread, but it has been quite enjoyable! Thanks for the encouragement too - I do try to keep perspective on the kid-thing, but the occassional reminder is always helpful! :)

    Have a great day, everyone!
