Just home from the Yarn show in my home town, the boys threw it down tonight. Andrew laying on the floor jamming to On the Road, the whole band out in the crowd to Shine A Light to end the show, amazing Abilene, Josey doing the worm on a sticky floor. Yeah, Yarn is amazing.

    Lol!
...smiles just reading about a Yarn show these days. We're currently in an amazing period in this band's history for sure.

It was a great show. Hard room to tape in. I'll check later to see what I got. Doodee ran video. Big crowd for Hickory, I'd say. I saw Josey dancing on stage early in the show, but missed the worm.

I was hoping your recap would be up this morning, badlab! Sounds like it was an awesome time - I love it when the line between stage and crowd disappears! It's already such a thin line at Yarn shows anyway!

Hopped, you know we'll gladly take whatever you got! :)

The fog is lifting and I am sure hopped will post the setlist... he's got a great memory. But they did play Tom Petty's Southern Accent for the first time. Blake noted the irony of a bunch of Yankee's playing it. Good stuff.

Teri posted this on FB yesterday... Y'all can see Shane (Josey) breakin' it down... :)

Cool Amy, thanks. Gotta say though, this headache/seziure unducing MTV world of ours ain't for me. When I get my DVD finished, you'll see that I'm more in the Scorcese camp than the MTV camp. If Andrew's soloing the camera is ON ANDREW, if Rod's soloing the camera is pointed AT ROD. If Blake's singing, yup....you can guess where the camera's pointing. Jesus Christ where the fuck else would you point it!!!! It's always driven me nuts.

doodee had a static cam. We had our mics and his camera clamped to an old steel window with no glass in it. It was was left in the wall when the building got an addition built on. One of the more interesting riggings I've done.

This show was uploaded today. Due to issues with archive.org, you may never see this show there. I will upload a torrent to bt.etree tomorrow. Archive.org is a great resource that is buggy as hell for the uploader.

"Complete with a 10 minute She's Gone dedicated to Whitney Houston..."

Funny, we had our Whitney Houston moment this weekend too. Went to record my friend's band on Friday night at a local club/restaurant. He's the drummer and they have a killer trmpet player and this wonderful vocalist. They do old mo-town and such...she's a robust black woman named Wanda Houston....a big fan of Whitney....she did I Will Always Love You for her first time ever and wow, she pretty much nailed it. The place went pin-drop quiet and I gotta say, it got a little emotional in the place. I was sitting right in front of her with my deck on a stool beside the piano. Too bad the you-tube someone posted from this cuts out before the end but it'll give a you a quick two minute peek:

    RIP Whitney....what a shame~

....good luck with and thanks for the upload hopped.

Aw, man - bummer. I'll have to listen to one of your million other shows while I work tonight, hopped! And thanks for dealing with all that technical crap for us - I don't know if I'd have the patience! You may have to coach some of us (i.e., me ;) on how to access torrent files - just saw on Yarn's FB page that the 2/9/12 show is also on bt.etree. Thanks for tryin'... :)

Many Whitney moments this weekend - lots of reflecting on her voice, her influence, her demons... and how much she was part of the soundtrack of my youth. Sitting on the bus in fifth grade sharing headphones with my major crush, listening to The Greatest Love of All... but how *did* I know if he really loved me? :) The most moving moment for me was Jennifer Hudson at the Grammys; I'm still speechless. Thanks for posting Wanda's homage, RC - lots of chills...

I cannot be responsible for the crowd vocals in the acoustic encore. Well, maybe partially responsible. It took me a minute to figure out what was going on and I ran over as quick as I could and rolled with the internals, handheld.

Thanks Dale for putting this up, I know it gave you fits.

I appreciate your perseverance, hopped! Did you figure it would be easier to mess with archive than try to teach me how to use bt.etree!? ;p

    Thanks!!!

Also, There are some chatterers on Let Us Pray and about half of The Dirt Road.

They moved after I gave them my now standard speech:

"Hey, I know you guys are here to have a good time and I don't want to affect that. Those things behind you there are microphones and everything you say will be posted on archive.org. I don't mind you talking here, and I'm not asking you to stop, but I, and anyone who listens to this recording will hear your entire conversation later."

Of course I DO mind, but the speech has to seem diplomatic and not sour the talkers against tapers or the band. A couple was arguing over whether or not the guy was wasted or not at the end of the amplified music and it's on there.

I usually start off with "listen you pack of fucking clueless douchebags...." You prolly get bettert results with your approach though ;)

Hopped, I do thank you for moving Fran Drescher out of the way. Gave the show a listen on my run today, sounds pretty good, a bit chatty and clanky at times. The show smokes, I think it is the norm for Yarn to tear it up every night, and this is no exception. If for anything listen to the show for the On The Road, Andrew just goes off. If I knew how to post a picture here I would post one I took of him laying on the flooring just ripping it up, so if anyone knows how to do that let me know. Thanks again Dale, I think you did a hell of a job as always.

As soon as she spoke, doodee and I looked at each other and face palmed. Right under the mics. Had to act on that one. And I recommend the speech I made. Works well without causing backlash most of the time. If you try to be an asshole about it, that's what you'll get back.
  9.
That's Just Fine... fuckin-A. Only three songs in, but blown away by Andrew's solo in The Dirt Road and every blessed second of That's Just Fine. Great, great show! I can't believe I've got to wait until April for my next Yarn fix...
