The year of Ricky B. began in DC. After a 17 day layoff, Yarn was ready to hit the road again. The band seemed rested and ready to tear it up! This gig was the fourth one at the Hill Country in DC. Of the four shows I've seen here, this one was the most packed. If it wasn't sold out, it was pretty damned close. I was glad to see a packed room. Yarn had the unfortunate experience of playing at an outdoor festival over the Columbus Day Weekend Holiday that was poorly organized and run. The fools put the beer tent far away from the stage and attendance was poor for all the acts that played that weekend. Anyway, DC can be a difficult place to break into. Most of the venues are sprawled throughout the metro area in downtown and neighboring cities. the culture here is an early morning one. People begin commuting around 430-6am and are in bed early. Most events are held earlier than most places with starting times around 7 or 8pm at the latest. Our subway system the metro shuts down at 1130pm, another problem for many in the area.
Yarn has definitely found a home at the Hill Country. Some people called out from the audience for when is playing the Purple Fiddle again, about 3.5 hours away, so it seems many fans are traveling in this area.
Yarn played two sets. the highlights were: That's Just Fine, Bobby Weeks, When the Summer Ends, Dirt Road, and the Salt Creek was extra jammy. The second set was solid as well. 5 guitars was awesome, Let Me In, and the first Final Bow I've seen live. The crowd all sang along with I wanted to get high and the table to my left kept singing they wanted a piece a of pie.
