Have a great time Sue. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Agreed on the beer hopped, we had Ranger IPA last time, hopefully they'll have something good. You want to meet up at Revolution for Pizza before hand? We might head there first. The opening band looks pretty good. I always love some Dead!

Looks like the wifey will be with me. This may be as close as some of you ever get to meeting a saint. I honestly don't know how this woman puts up with my lifestyle. But I'm glad she does.

Sue, I don't remember much drinkable beer at Double Door. No porters. They probably have Guinness in a bottle or can. We had the Ranger IPA from New Belgium. Pre-show at Revolution Pizza will have around 50 taps of craft beer, most of those from NC.

Yeah hopped, lets hope they have Ranger IPA.... may have to bring a little "Apple Pie" to stash in the wife's bag just in case.

Well this is the official hoppedup's Wifey Appreciation post. Thank you good lady for letting your man come out to play and record tunes for everyone!

Yes, a taper's wife is a unique role. I'm fortunate that my wife is a avid reader and usually brings her pre-show reading (we're both librarians) She also talks to Andrew about gardening since we arrive very early to get the best seat for taping and set up.

Check out this article written from a taper wife's perspective. I am so guilty of part F.

The thanks are rare but appreciated.

I recently switched to all 24 bit/48khz uploads, which means higher quality files, but they can't be burned to CD without being dithered/downsampled. I expect everything I post now will get a "Can you post a 16 bit version?" comment. I already got one on my first 24 bit torrent on etree. No "Thanks!". Just "any chance of a 16 bit version?"

    Sigh.

I'll warn the wife that women always buy me beers at shows. Well, not always. But odds are good that at a Yarn show that someone, male or female, will.
  8.
That's a great article. I was at the Allmans one night when a drunk indeed viewed my mic stand as a hand rail. I tried to tell him that it wasn't and to let go but he was too cocked. So I just held it along with him until he wandered off to puke somewhere.

We stealthed Ryan Adams at Carnegie Hall last week but that's the first thing I've taped besides Yarn in three years. As of late, if I won't listen to it I don't tape it so I don't spend too much effort on it.

As for thanks, boy, all you 5G folks have been more than appreciative and it's a pleasure to post shows for you cats.

The 5G crowd ain't the genpop by a long shot.

By the end of 2011 I will have recorded 65 unique bands in this year alone, some of them many times (Yarn 19x this year). I'll post my year-end show stats when it's done.

    2 days until Yarn Ball!
  9.
How many of these recording do you actually listen to hopped? I mean, I know it's all 19 of the Yarn ones ;)

About a quarter of them I'd say. At least half are just one big wav or flac file sitting on a hard drive. If I ever retire from taping or some of these no-name acts I've taped become famous, I'll process a lot of it. Hard drive space is cheap and if I'm rolling tape, I usually get the opener. Several shows this year I taped solely for giving the artist a copy. I haven't listened to much Yarn lately, but I streamed Catawba Valley 2011-05-01 and Double Door Inn 2011-06-25 yesterday and they sounded real nice. I've had my Dirk Quinn Band recording from last month on a loop this morning.

Think I'll queue up a Yarn show after lunch. Maybe one of the epic 3+ hour shows to take me through most of the afternoon.

I didn't realize the 2010-05-01 show was yours, hoppedup. That is my absolute most favorite show/recording.* "This is day, what day is it?" The Time Burns On is a favorite version of one of my favorite songs. I have a good Red Rocks, Sunday Furthur, parking lot story involving your recording. I'm such a fan of the show that I've been trying to download tapernate's 2010-04-30 show from bt.etree for over 3 months. I'm nearly there, 94.3%. 8-) There's one occasional seeder out there that for some reason only gives me around .03 kB/s every now and then. Looking forward to hearing it one of these days.

    * 2010-05-01 and 2009-12-11 technically qualify as my absolute most favorite shows/recordings.

Have fun at the YARN BALL to those that will be attending!!

Yes, I do believe it is going to be a good day and a great night! YARNMAS is here, it is really, really here. Yes, Reckless there really is a Santa Claus, and he is delivering tonight! It's funny that the 5/1/10 show is being discussed, as that is one that never leaves my iPod, I too love that Time Burns On, now if Saint Blake could deliver that tonight, now that would be something.

2010-05-01 is one of my favorites for sure. That was my 4th time taping Yarn. Brouche was at Merlefest, so I drove the two hours to Morganton solo. There were some people standing right under my mics talking at the beginning. I didn't shush them but one of them asked me what I was doing and if they were messing up my recording. When I answered in the affirmative, they quieted down a bit. I've seen that guy at every show in Morganton since then. The band put on a great show for guys who had been on the road for 31 days straight. I've seen them start several shows with a slower number and they seem to ratchet it up quite well by the end.

I just told my wife there is GD cover band opening tonight. She'll be singing "Take Me Out Misery" in her head by 10:05 p.m. Cards are dumped, batteries are charging. Yeeeeeee-haw!

I know Tous wants to hear that it was the worst Yarn show ever. It was the complete opposite. The guys play real inspired and relaxed all night. I haven't seen them live for a few months now and something has definitely changed for the better. Rick and Bobby are so synced and I never thought they could play better but they are. They play between Rod and Andrew is incredible. They are playing as a real unit. And Blake....this has got to be the happiest I've ever seen him. He doesn't have to tell you he's feeling good. You can tell he's having fun on stage and his singing has brighter edge to it. Great, great show. I don't recall too much of the set list, too many bourbons. They closed with Lennon's "So this is Christmas" Great crowd interaction and singing.

Well, we got in at 3:00, the boys played until 2. The opening band The Reckoning was very good. First let me say that the night was like a great family party, just an incredible vibe in the place. I love talking to people who are at their first show. There were two kids who just came to the place on a whim, damn were those boys shocked at what they saw, it's safe to say Yarn is picking up fans Along The Way. I will leave a detailed review to a better writer, but the show was just amazing. They played a few Christmas songs, So This Is Christmas was one, Rod was amazing on his Silent Night Jam as well. The Salt Creek seemed to go on forever, just sick stuff. The sound was great and I recall hopped telling me the recording sounded good. I can't believe he doesn't have it up yet, what the hell do you do all day? HA... Outlaw>For What it's Worth> Outlaw and DBMHA were just nuts and around 20 mins each, right Brouche? Good to meet Sue and see Amy again. Can't wait for the next go round, Yarn Ball in the South was a keeper. And again thanks to Yarn, these guys are just relentless. That have had 10 drives to each gig the past few days and they still give 110 percent each night. Apparently they woke up on Friday in Atlanta, drove to Beaufort, NC which is about 10 hours played a show and drove back to Charlotte which is 7 more hours then got to bed, just insane! Looking forward to my next show in January. Happy Holidays, Badlab.

Sounds like you all had a blast. Yarn is the hardest working band in America. Meanwhile Lady Ga Ga makes millions. Go figure? When Yarn gets in the zone everyone in the band becomes 1 and they take you to that special place. It's like all the best bands rolled into 1.

hoppedup had a rare sleep-in day and didn't crawl out of bed until almost 10. After getting home after 4 a.m. on my fifth night of live music in a row, not too bad. Unfortunately the raw file appears to have been corrupted and the attempted repair is starting to look grim.

Big thanks to suemck for getting our tab at Revolution, much too kind. Thanks to desperate amy and badlab for the beers.

It was a great show by the boys. Opened with new Christmas song about old saint nick singing fa la la on christmas night. Merry Christmas (War Is Over) is the song you're thinking of badlab.

*I was just kidding about the raw file being corrupted. It sounds pretty good. I may not get it done today as I have a lot to do today and a show tonight. I'll try to get a stream going since it may be Tuesday before it's up. I'll post a link when the stream is up.

edit: Stream disabled. There is no longer an option on the free account to do anything other than the onboard mic on the laptop. Which means it was playing through crappy lappy speakers into crappy lappy mic and sounded like ass when I checked it from another machine. :(

Bummer about the stream :( Glad to see no files were corrupted, but if you keep toying with our emotions, hopped, Santa's going to bring you a lump of coal! ;-)

OOOOOOOMG - so much FUN!!! Badlab's right that it was like a family get-togther - really great vibe; everyone just happy to be there and full of holiday spirit! That's Just Fine might have been my highlight for the evening although the alt. version of Salt Creek was a total throw down! The wooden floor was shaking under our feet! It was great to meet sue and to see Brouche, badlab, and hopped - not to mention of course, it was really nice to catch up with the Yarn boys again!

That was my first time at the Double Door and I can't say enough about the place! Fast service, tasty drinks (rum!), really friendly staff... they made my friend and me feel like regulars before the night was out!

Hope you got back okay, sue - I'm so glad you were able to make it! Rod mentioned that they were driving back to NYC last night - that had to have been one long-ass ride after the past few days...

Can't wait for the Lincoln Theatre show in January - we gotta pack that place! I've added it as an event in the Independent, but I need to re-read stony's promotion ideas thread to get the thoughts flowing!
