Welcome, Guest

  1.
Hi, all - A friend and I are going to the Yarn Ball in a couple weeks so I'm going to burn her a disc of the new unrecorded songs so she can prepare! She's a fan and has all the albums, but doesn't listen to the archive shows, so she's a little behind :) She's a bit of a purist and favors studio over live recordings, so I'm going to try to pull songs from some of the recent shows with little to no crowd noise - RC's shows will definitely fit the bill!

So with that in mind, I thought I'd throw it out to my Yarn braintrust for consideration. It's going to take my addled brain some time to find the recordings I'm looking for (i.e., Was that Nectar's? Or Clementine's? One of the BBQ places? Which Red Square or Black-Eyed Sally's show???) So if you've got a thought, feel free to mention it! Here's what I think I'm going to put on there:

Misery, Singing Jim Croce, Annie, Southern Rock Song, It's All Over Now, Desperate Amy, Tired of Everything, My Wasted Life, Dark Skies, The Dirt Road, Let Us Pray, Almost Home, Along The Way, Thank You for Coming Around, The End Of Summer, Turn The Light Off, Maybe You're Mine

    Thanks!

Can't wait for the Yarn Ball... The Dirt Road you crave is from 6-25-11 at the Double Door, I think it is the best one, still had the slower tempo and is just awesome. But that is just my opinion... the Chapel Hill version is great for the up tempo version. Hell they are all good.

It is going to be a good one, isn't it?! :) I'd be happy to email zip file(s) of everything once I get it compiled, if anyone wants one.

Thanks for the suggestion, badlab! It is hard picking what to include, but that's a good problem to have! I'm also counting down the days to the Yarn Ball - my last show in August was a loong time ago!

Misery: 4/22/2010 Blind Tiger. I may be partial to this one as it was my first Yarn show. I think Bobby had only been playing with the band for a couple of months at that time. Quite room, really nice guitar and mando sound on this one. Also suggest 2/18/11 Pour House. BGreen does multi track recording so super clean recording than most other versions. Smoking take! You get the feeling they love playing the Pour House. I think this song should come later in the disc to really hook your friend. Maybe second to last then finish the disc with Southern Rock Song

Jim Croce: 4/16/11 Pleasant Ridge House Concert. Acoustic Version. Super Clean recording. Different than what you'll hear at a venue but awesome. Also 8/14/10 Sully's Pub ( JC's version). Very nice recording and slightly faster than usual.

Annie: 6/25/11 Double Door Inn. Rod told me once that he loves playing that place. His playing on this shows that. (And that mando guy's not too bad himself). Pour House 11/24/2010. Chatty but really good.

I'll get to the rest later.

I have to second Brouche on Rod's playing at the 6/25/11 show. We'll take a little credit because we fed the boys well that afternoon, ha. But Rod was on Fire. I stayed sober and drove that night and stood up by Rod most of the night. It was a great show and Rod's performance definitely shines. Just download the whole damn show. The recording at the 2/18/11 and the next night in the Outer Banks are amazing and stay on my ipod at all times. Good stuff.

You guys are awesome! Thanks so much, Brouche! The 2/18/11 PH show was the first time I heard Misery and I remember falling in love that night with its swagger and the harmony on the chorus. I think I'll take your suggestion for song arrangement - that part is going to be a challenge for me :)

(This is totally getting me pumped for the Charlotte show!!!)

....and that's removing all the songs that they haven't played in the past few years; having to remove Already Won being a notable disappointment....nudge to the DrunkenAngel ;)

"She's a fan and has all the albums, but doesn't listen to the archive shows"

May I assume then that she's not yet seen them live? If so, that'll change. Yarn covers so much ground that it's easy to custom-fit a selection of songs if you know the person. I've Seen The Difference>Liquor Love>Turn The Light Off is a whole other animal than Angel In Woodstock>Wishing Well>No Future. The only common denominator is superb playing.

As for BOAT versions and where to find them among my stuff, you might check out:

Christopher Street 5/20/11 Black eyed Sally's, Hartford
    Abilene 9/11/09 Main Pub, Manchester
Along The Way 6/18/11 Van Dyke Lounge, Schenectady
Thank You For Comin' Around 11/17/11 Red Square, Albany
Maybe You're Mine 10/6/11 Red Square, Albany Albany
Liquor Love 1/18/11 Black eyed Sally's, Hartford
    Daydream 2/12/10 Sully's, Hartford
Tired Of Everything 10/22/10 Crissy Farm, Great Barrington, MA
When The Summer Ends 11/17/11 Red Square, Albany
Let Me In 12/17/10 The Roadhouse, Millers Falls, MA
.....and on and on. My birthday show that hopped snagged such an excellent recording of has gems galore on it.

Good luck and have fun at the show~

Yes!!! Thanks so much for the help, RC! I forgot about Liquor Love - got to add that to the list! And A Heart Worth Breaking (or Reckless from your b-day show), that needs to be on there too! My original thought was to make her a disc so she'd be ready for the new songs currently in rotation, but I'm having a hard time keeping hold of the reigns! Maybe two discs are in order... :)

Thanks again for all the suggestions, guys - I knew the braintrust would come through!
  5.
And my Yarn Ball crib sheet is DONE! Seventeen songs over 103 minutes! She better get studying! :)

Thanks again for the help, gang!

Good job Amy. I would add Yarn's Christmas song to your list. Not only does it rock even though it's kind of sad but it's a given for the Yarn ball. Listen to last years Yarn ball to hear the song.

sounds like a great disc for YARN bombing Amy ;)
Things may be falling in place for me to come to the YARN ball! Keeping my fingers crossed - husband thinks it's a poor excuse to stay in the States but hey what does he know ;) I can't think of a better Xmas present to give myself

Perfect present indeed. If someone going to the Yarn Ball does not mind doing me a favor can you pick up an extra poster for me? I would love to add it to my collection. If not I understand. Ill pay for shipping or trade you last years poster for it.
  8.
Sounds like an easy enough request - I'll see what I can do for ya! :)
