Just saw this and already excited. This is one of the best sounding rooms in NC. Hopefully all the Pour House crowd comes out for this one. Its a Saturday night, so this is a no-brainer for the NC fans.
Indeed - the place will be packed! I was there last weekend and saw that they've already got posters up for the show! I'm just hoping that they'll add a Raleigh show between now and then... January's so far away! :)
hmmmm... now I have to think of a reason to come back from Switzerland for this ... LOL ... Love the Lincoln ... it's just 3 miles from our house - wonder if the renters wouls let me crash there?
I just pimped the January show on FB, so go RSVP all you NC folks! They've got Yarn's web page wrong, but I wrote a comment noting that so maybe it'll get fixed quickly.
You're welcome to come on down and settle this one 'mano a mano' , Dollar Bob. We tagged your turf last year. We were expecting retaliation.
Lincoln is one of the finest sounding rooms in the southeast. Raleigh has one of the best downtown areas for live music and partying in the southeast. And clean, quiet, safe, inexpensive lodging in walking distance from the venue. I'm sure it will suck on many levels.
Oh yeah, then they play the Grey Eagle in Asheville the next night. Also a fine sounding venue in THE best town east of the Rockies for local craft beer and good music. Then there's that hometown show for badlab in February.
Ok, so here's how much I love myself...um...Mrs. Tous. For Christmas, I bought myself...um...Mrs. Tous, airfare, hotel and tickets to see my favorite...um...Mrs. Tous's favorite band for two nights in Raleigh and Asheville. Now that's how to treat myself...um...Mrs. Tous at Christmas.
What a great way to start off the New Year Tous!! So Jealous ... wish I could think of an excuse to head to the US in January ... anyone? anyone? Work on it for me - maybe the renters won't renew the lease and I'll have to go work on the house! Enjoy the Raleigh crowd ;)
here's a good excuse: you forgot an item at Terry's house and it far too expensive to ship to Europe, so you have to fly back and retrieve the item. I'm sure badlab and Reckless can come up with a few more. As educators, we have heard all the excuses in the book!
Getting more psyched now that I read about the openers, the Dune Dogs. Mainly a cover band but me likes what they cover...Jon Dee, BRox, Scott Miller....
Well for as defecit as he is in aligning himself with the proper sports teams, you folks who get to meet Mr tous are in for a real treat.....and his better half sweetens the deal~
Safe tousy travels you guys and we'll see ya next week.
enjoy the Raleigh (hometown) crowd Tous' they're the greatest - in my biased opinion- wish I could be there! Love the Lincoln Theatre - one of my favorite venues in Raleigh - ah this sucks ... only 4342 miles away ...
Ok, other than wearing my Bruins and Giants shirts in Canes and Panthers country, what can we do to kill time in the area? We're going to the Cat's Cradle on Friday to see the Old 97's, so other than waking up Saturday morning with a hangover, our day is open.
Any good arts/music hippy-dippy sections of town to check out?
If you're in Carrboro, I'd say it's worth a side trip to Saxapahaw to the General Store and Eddy Pub for a beer/meal. Franklin Street/Main Street in Chapel Hill/Carrboro is the happening corridor. Across from the Cradle you have Milltown, which has good beer and decent food. Down the street you have Carolina Brewery, which also has decent beer and food, although a bit pricy in comparison to other places. I always eat at the Mediterranean Deli on Franklin Street. Good stuff. Allen & Son on 86 is in the Chapel Hill city limits and is the finest Eastern NC barbecue available without going way down east. You can find some funky shops on Franklin.
In downtown Raleigh, there are museums of history and science that are worth a visit. And they are free. Locopops on Hillsborough is good for paletas (mexican popsicles). Flying Saucer, Busy Bee Cafe and Woody's @ City Market are all good for a beer. Clyde Cooper's is a block over from Lincoln and has good barbecue. Natty Greene's brewpub has good beer and food. Not sure of much hippy-dippy activity in Raleigh. Hillsborough is the main drag through NCSU campus. Lots of restaurants and a few shops. But nothing worth mentioning in either category. The Pit has some mighty fine 'cue & ribs and a decent beer selection. Bit uptown for a 'cue joint, IMO. Brouche mentioned going to Lily's Pizza at some point, IIRC. If you walk around Capitol Square you will see windows I installed or developed in four state government buildings.
I would probably slide down to the free brewery tour at Carolina Brewing Company in Holly Springs. Unlimited free samples are a great way to start your afternoon.
Don't know what time I'm hitting town yet. Anybody want to pre-show? Busy Bee or Woody's are pretty convenient to Lincoln.
Yup...NC has a crazy liquor law that you either have to be a private club or have a certain percentage of your sales be food to have a liquor license. Cat's Cradle does neither so it's beer and wine only. I can't remember if the Lincoln serves liquor or not. I know they don't sell food and I'm sure they don't have memberships.
"Prolific songwriter Blake Christiana fronts Yarn, a Brooklyn six-piece whose twang fends off the hipster notions the borough's name conjures for some. Americana stars Tony Trischka, Casey Driessen, Edie Brickell and our own Caitlin Cary served to validate the city slickers' legitimacy by recording with the band on its sophomore effort. Yarn draws apt comparisons to Gram Parsons by infusing his brand of country rock with strains of bluegrass and blues, then executing such varied arrangements with top-notch instrumental chops. Raleigh sextet the Dune Dogs open, mixing a hefty helping of honky-tonk and Southern rock classics with an occasional original that drinks from the same fountains. —Spencer Griffith
Tous, lemme think about some interesting things to do in town Saturday during the day - the kids' soccer is cancelled, so that's out ;) I'll get back to ya... And yes, I can confirm that the Lincoln has booze! :)
Looks like hopped wrote a pretty good synopsis of things - Chapel Hill is a cool place to walk around... also, it's Triangle Restaurant Week and a lot of restaurants are offering 3-course meals for $20 or $30 (www.TriRestaurantWeek.com). The weather is going to be nice and we've got a ton of parks - my favorite place for a day hike is actually in Durham: http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/enri/main.php Or there's an ice skating rink in City Plaza downtown or the Flea Market at the Fairgrounds... Hope you can find some fun in the area! Looking forward to meeting you two Saturday night! :)
Looks like there are at least five tapers with high quality rigs lined up for the Grey Eagle Sunday night. Might be a good night for me to rest my Fisher-Price gear.
No drinkin' at the Lincoln, hopped?! But I owe you so many thank-you beers! Maybe just one??? :P Keep us posted on where you guys go pre-show - I may be meeting up with some friends, but planning to get to the Lincoln early for the opening band... Glad to hear you'll be able to enjoy the show in Asheville sans gear - you deserve a night off!
Chillin' before the Old 97s, drinkin, expensive whiskey at the hotel bar....F$&:ing North Carolina laws...great pick on the Meditteranean Deli, hopped.
Great show tonight!!! Sorry that I had to scat befor saying goodbye to everone; the husb. was done for the night so had to get him home. Now I'm up walking off the last bacardi and diet :) Great to meet the Tous' and see hopped!!! Candy, here's the places in Aseville I mentioned: Biltmore for an afternoon of walking around (http://www.biltmore.com/) and Grove Park Inn for a drink and a sunset (http://www.groveparkinn.com/Leisure/Dining/). Have a great time tomorrow night, everyone!
Thanks for the tips on things to do today but apparently we've got to spend the day looking for our faces. Seems they were melted off last night!
Tell you what, as much as we've raved about NYC and hometown crowds, indeed Raleigh is their hometown. Packed house and over-the-top energy. Outlaw > Primitive Radio Gods > Outlaw was face-meltingly good.
Other highlights?
Well, I'm sure hopped will post the setlist. Every song was a damn highlight.
Going to have to look to hopped for the set list, but I have to agree with tous! And now, tous, imagine Christopher Street with that bunch of maniacs... good, good times :) Couple other highlights for me were Turn the Light Off and Along the Way, but of course the entire set list was just a great ride! No Abeline (which they're playing via the stream right now - getting dark...) and no Misery, but that's a personal live fav... :)
Missed you sue!!! Maybe you'll see Yarn over there before you come back - hang tough!
Great to see hopped and Brouche and meet the tous'!
