Yeeeeaaaaahhhh.... Going to be an Awesome night in Raleigh... my first time seeing the boys in their "Southern Hometown"... see ya in a while hopped and Brouche.
This blank space in time brought to you by blueberry moonshine and Jamesons. Pour House was packed and the band had an amazing three sets. It went by way too fast!
OMG they did Brown eyed women and Sugaree. I am so jealous. Sounds like the band melted everyones face off last night. ITA that Yarn is the best band in the whole god damn land!!!!!! I can't wait for a full review and setlist. Was Bobby and Ricky back last night?

Can anyone confirm the name of what we have been calling Shine The Light On? Ricky says before the song it's called Bourbon Sermon, but I can't figure out if he's saying that's the song title or just the theme of the sermons at the Church of Yarn.
The Pour House shows are special and this one stands out among the five Yarn shows I've seen there. The crowd was into it. The band was on fire again. I hung out in the balcony by my rig most of the night. Fantastic show and crowd.
I hope to get the upload started before I leave to tape Acoustic Manner here in a bit.
There are billions of 1s and 0s hurtling toward archive.org's servers right now that were captured last night on Blount Street in Raleigh, NC last night. I had to set them free.
This show sounds surprisingly good in spite of the fact I left my pre-amp at home and had to run on the plug-in power from the recorder. I was worried about distortion because the mics need 9v to function properly and the recorder only gives out about 3v.
This was an EPIC show... definitely my favorite one so far (not including my house concert) boys were on fire, awesome selection of Dead songs, basically just pure AWESOMENESS!
WOW - awesome show - way to make me homesick for Raleigh and the PoHo. It's been 7 months since my exile to Switzerland and no Yarn ... I need some sort of support group for this or I'm not gonna make it through. Thanks again for taping Hopped
nice work hoppedup...thanks so much looking forward to hearing the dead set......the lad and i were just listening to one of our favorite shows last week... the one with Candyman and Deal http://www.archive.org/details/YARN2008-01-31.SBD
Finally getting a chance to listen all the way through again this morning at work. What an amazing show. Trevor does a great job on Sugaree. It was a Pour House crowd, so it was noisy. But they were into the music as well. There was another taper there with nicer mics who actually remembered his pre-amp, so there may be a better source available eventually. He had taken 18 years off from taping and just bought new gear. What a first show to break the gear in.
I would like to thank Tracy (x2), badlab, Mark, and maybe others for the beers. They were much appreciated, but I respectfully request that free beers be kept to a maximum of three in the future.
ITA with everything you all said. This is hands down one of the best Yarn shows ever. At least until my next Yarn show. lol
Living out of the country must be tuff. I see Yarn whenever they play NYC and still go through withdrawal when they head down south. So it must be even harder for you. At least you can DL shows.
ANNIE is a hit. I love this song and truly think it could be a hit.
Kind of off topic. Last night was my sister’s birthday. While we where eating cake she asked me who Furthur was? She said that everyone at her beach club was going to the show. After I told her who they were a light bulb went off in my head. Of course by then it was too late. I am such a putz. I should have hit up the parking lot and handed out copies of this show. Or at the very least I should have sat in the parking lot with my windows rolled down and my doors open blasting this show. Furthur did 17 songs while Yarn did 31.
And still just the right mix of jams and verse-chorus-verse for me. And the jams actually take you somewhere and bring you back.
I really enjoy acoustic singer-songwriter stuff, but find myself wishing they could jam a little. I like jam bands, but sometimes wish they wouldn't noodle for 20 minutes going nowhere.
Yarn has the best of both worlds. There is nothing they can't do. If the crowd is all Dead Heads they can jam till the cows come home. If they are not they can play 3 minute songs or whatever the crowd is feeling. You like Country, Rock, and Blues and so on and so on..... Yarn's jams always sound fresh and never bore me. I love long jams but sometimes when a band noodles around for a while I tend to get board. Yarn can take any song even some 3 minute pop song and stretch it out 20 minutes and make it sound fresh and better then the original. It’s that moment on stage when the whole band gets in the zone and becomes one. Each time the band plays a show they create an album in front of your eyes. Plus Jay wall may jump on stage to play the sax after not seeing the boys in months and it feels as if he never left. They have crazy chemestry. I strongly dislike when a band takes the stage and every single songs sounds like they do on the studio albums.
I love seeing Yarn in a small bar/club with 25 or 50 people. They are like our little secret. We talk to the band before and after the show. They personally thank us for coming. However what is it going to take for them to hit the big time? I have this silly little vision/fantasy of the band selling out 3 nights at Madison Square Garden or peakin at the beacon or playing Jones Beach during the summer. I can picture the parking lots filled with Yarmy members everywhere. People tailgating in the parking lot blasting some live Yarn while they drink beers and grill some food. I know I am weird.
I just noticed in my playback that the first two sets were resampled to 44.1 and the third is still 48k. I don't burn CDs much anymore, but I believe the third set will be screwed up if you burn it without resampling. I may try to fix this tonight. I think I'll soon be buying another HD and switching over to just upping 24 bit sources anyway. I've been doing 16/44.1 to save space and help CD burning people. I save all my original 24 bit un-tracked files.
Just updated the old Yarn spreadsheet this morning. Didn't realize Pour House was my 30th show. Here are the updated stats:
30 shows in 19 unique venues in 15 unique cities in 5 states with 5710 miles driven in a span of 563 days for an average of 1 yarn show every 18.77 days
1 Yarn show every 18.77 days!!!! That's HEAVEN on earth. Hat's off to ya Hopped. I'm so grateful you're a taper and share all your Yarn experiences with us all ;) I figure I owe you lots of beers when I get back to the States ;)
"I really enjoy acoustic singer-songwriter stuff, but find myself wishing they could jam a little. I like jam bands, but sometimes wish they wouldn't noodle for 20 minutes going nowhere."
Bingo hopped. Again, there's a certain other band I used to follow around that offered the same dynamic!
But it was all amazing and I love hearing them play the Dead... that was the first band I really got into following around and such so anything they play makes me happy.
