Looking forward to Saturday but bummin' a bit about tomorrow. Looks like I'm gonna miss the Putnam Den show as we have graduation and I'd probably miss songs trying to make it to Saratoga afterward. I love my music but my family and career come first and after spending four years with these grads, I can't blow them off.
Yarn needs to check my schedule before they plan theirs, that's all.
I am going to try and make it up to the Den tomorrow night. And Mr. Tous, if I can pick you and the wife out of the crowd I will introduce myself. Reckless, you will be missed.
Hey, let's try this. tous has met my buddy Joe at a few shows and so has Buckheart. Buckheart and Joe look frighteningly alike so tous, when you see a dude who looks like he's Joe's brother, that'll be Buckheart!
Have fun you guys........I'm bummin' to be missing ths one.
Well, if Buckheart was there, we missed him. Met John Mullins, huge fan who may or may not be on this board.
Wait...do you think they're one and the same?
Anyway...
Solid show in front of a good crowd with friends & heckling family! This place has a huge stage, almost as wide as Sullivan Hall. Didn't keep track of the set but off the top of my head:
Let Us Pray Bad Bad Man Dear Mama Dark Skies My Wasted Life Christopher St. (pleasure to see Andrew and Bobby keep pace!) Shine The Light On More Woman on the Interstate Tennessee You Don't Know How It Feels Scarlet Begonias Fire on the Mountain Annie Down on Your Luck Can't Slow Down (I'd like to hear the slowed-down version of this again!) Cat and Mouse (awesome version)
Andrew recorded, so this will surface eventually. Also got a package from him chock full of discs so watch for those as well.
Schenectady tonight!

Let Us Pray Almost Home NYC Found My Wasted Life Good Lady Along The Way Dark Skies Tennessee Down On Your Luck Annie Madeline Abeline Thank You For Comin' 'Round Can't Slow Down Bad Bad Man Irish jam> Woman On The Interstate Shine The Light The Dirt Road Brokedown Palace One More Saturday Night The Thrill Is Gone - Shane Spaulding Schenectady
This show saw a completely different crowd.....not nearly as packed as last time but everyone was listening attentively so it made for a great show. As you can see, a terrific setlist and the recording is very good. I clipped mics to the rail overhead about 15ft out from the main banks. The sound there isn't particularly crisp but it sounds good and the quiet songs are nice with no crowd noise. One bummer though, I couldn't get proper levels throughout the first few songs. I fucked with every switch and connection I could think of. Finally, I pulled the BRAND NEW 9v from the pre-amp and they were dead. Pack the unit with used but good batteries and recorded everything perfectly fine throughout the rest of the show. I'll start the master at the point the whole thing got straightened out during NYC Found.
This was a first show for a musician friend of mine and he was roundly impressed with lots of compliments. Just loves it....Andrew made him want to play his mandolin more! Oh yeah, that's another note. When we arrived, Andrew was returning from the van with his older electric mandolin because his new one had a connection glitch they couldn't straighten out. So this one sounds like old times again~
Had never heard their Brokedown Palace so that was a surprise and a welcomed out...it was great. Along The Way is my newest favorite....holy smokes what a wonderful song. Then as it was getting late, I stepped to the stage and said to Blake, we're gonna get a Dirt Road, right? he said that I must have read his mind 'cause they were just going into it. Shane gave us another rousing Thrill Is Gone and the obligatory Schenectady ended things.
I'll try to master this today and get it out to tous tomorrow......now that hockey's over, he's got nothing but time ;)
#1 - Fountain House -3/20/10 #2 - Van Dyck Lounge - 6/18/11
Best shows ever? No.
Best time? Well, you could make a strong argument for #1 there.
Drunkest I've been at a Yarn show? Sadly, yes.
Now, in the bars defense, I wasn't overserved...I over-ordered. Hit me hard in the last few songs so apologies for any stupid shit I said. Thankfully Mrs. Tous got us back to the hotel safe and sound.
Wow, after starting to master this one I have to upgrade the rating quite a bit. This really sounds terrific.....very sharp, well balanced and all intruments present. I only had a couple of blanks and fucked up a couple tracks on set two so I'll prolly wait a day or two and re-do disc two before sending it off to tous. Great versions of the songs and only the second time played for the dirt Road.....this one's tops.
You didn't say anything stupid to me tous but then, we weren't talking sports at all!
you seemed just fine to me tous, however at one point, kinda late, we seemed to each have two full drinks in front of us, just sayin'... but in the bars defense, there were two of them.
LOVED the Madeline. Thanks again Blake !
also just listened to the Brokedown Palace (again), excellent choice, sounds awesome.
Well, I know I was blotto because I remember telling Blake after the show when he made a comment about not playing Misery, I said something to the effect of "Fuck Misery, man, I love 'Let Us Pray' now...just a great fucking song."
Now for me to diss 'Misery' ... well... that's Mr. Maker leaving his Mark.
Many thanks to RC for another fine job, even with the battery issue! If you listen closely, you can hear a "toused" Tous.
