Anyone familiar with The Hobo Stage?

Is it a bar or just a listening room?
  6.
Hard to tell from the site and I couldn't find any pics by googling. Maybe yodelay or Drunken Angel can clue us in. That or we'll just find out!

oh and hey, I got that other burner so I should be able to bring clean copies of Sully's and Red Square along on Saturday~

Somehow alcohol and listening room seem incongruent ;)

I guess you see where my priorities for a Saturday night Yarn roadtrip lies on this Monday!

If you Google street map the address you can see the building clearly. Very interesting looking.

the Hobo stage is just an music preservation organization that , well, organizes gigs among other things. Its not an actual place I think from looking at their website. They seem to hold shows in hotel ballrooms, this Fountain house place Saturday, etc.

    thats all I got....

The Hobo Stage is a vehicle for side projects for the RRE guys and has had shows across the USA in various venues. But mainly in the North Jersey area. They also bring in a few bands that the Railroad boys like and would enjoy sitting in with. Such band as Great American Taxi featuring Vince Herman (Left Over Salmon), Nershi's blue Planet with Billy Nershi (The String Chesse), New Monsoon, Greensky Bluegrass, Hot Buttered Rum and David Gans. The Fountain House is a old road house bar with a stage only serves alcohol, so eat before you get there.

This gig for Yarn is a great way to show Railroad Earth, that the Yarn fans come out and support their band and show them Yarn could open for RRE, and or be a supporting act on a tour. Any way you look at it , it's going to be one hell of a night.
  8.
    Thanks so much Palaz.

Hey, what might you know about the logistics and permissions required to videotape this gig? Does the venue or RRE guys allow it? cause Yarn I'm sure would allow it.

I'm very psyched. I recorded my son's talent show today and for the first time, I tried a new set up. It's always a pain to do post production and synch up the DAT audio with the camera video but now I have that beat. I brought along my stand-alone DVD burner. I ran the camera unput into it and then ran the separate audio from the DAT and AT shotgum mics into the other inputs. Perfect! It worked splendidly so now there's no post production at all. The master DVD is instantly complete!

Anyway, thought I might try this new set-up this weekend if I can gain permission.

    What a great show !!

The RRE guys started things off around 9:00. Four hours of music with Tim and John from RRE sitting in on at least half the YARN set adding a fiddle and another mandolin, they sounded like they've been in the band for a long time. Must mention the venue - hardwood floors, tongue and groove walls, er...er... tongue and groove CEILINGS !! A collection of eclectic wall furnishings; a number of mounted antlers-a couple of them adorned with black brassieres (we're they does ? the others buck ?), the front end of an old Moto-ski snowmobile, a snowboard, a fish, random golf clubs, a watermelon tapestry as a stage backdrop, the obligatory rubber chicken and off course an inflatable sheep resting atop the package goods refrigerator. No big screen TVs for basketball,.... nooooo, this is a place where you play darts and billiards, drink $ 2.50 drafts from plastic cup or even cans !!, and listen to the jukebox which includes Ray Charles, REM, and Merle Haggard. The only things that may have been missing were the sawdust on the floor and a chicken wire cage for the band- ...in a word - PERFECT !!!!! - I'm going to see if they will allow me to start a franchise of this bar- there really aren't enough of these kind of places anymore.

They should have arrested me and everyone leaving that place cause it has to be illegal to have that much music and fun for only $ 18.

headzilla...nice description of the bar! I think Blake had this place in mind when he wrote "Roadhouse".

Another great show, I agree. Great to see everyone there from Reckless & Tanlgled, to bgreen to jgoods to Ponz. I didn't keep track of the set list (too busy enjoying the show) so I'm anxious to see it. They played for about 2 hours and 45 minutes! 10:30 to about 1:20AM. Odd thing is I don't know if they really played that many songs! Lots of jammin with the RRE guys who fit in seamlessly!

...and Ricky? You owe me that version of 'Misery' you promised...next time!

Everyone was pickin' and grinnin'! Defitiely a Yarn crowd. Tim & friends opened but the crowd was clearly there for Yarn.

For those that weren't there, was it worth the 3 1/2 hour drive? Um...you have to ask?

Look forward to the audio and video!

...and in closing...I quote Neil Robinson who posted this on their Facebook site:
"awesome time last night with the boys from rre,the music never stopped, hurtin today but worth it one of the best shows ive seen in a long time"
  13.
My car's clock read 5:20 am while the odometer read 374.9 miles.....I considered circling the block just to make it official. I haven't driven 375 miles for a show since Jerry was alive. It was worth it then and it was worth it Saturday night. Headzilla and tous summed it all up pretty well. It was a party that you just didn't want to miss and the house and RRE folks couldn't have been more accomodating and welcoming to Yarn and their fans. I can't believe this was a first time thing as it all fit like a glove. RRE's set was a great introduction to them....will be seeking out some RRE material after hearing Tim & crew have so much fun up there.

    Down On Your Luck
    Woman On The Interstate
    Can't Slow Down
Alone On The Weekend - Tim
    NYC Found - Tim
    Music's Only Outlaw - Tim
Bad Bad Man - Tim & John
Wanted To Get High - Tim & John
Bars Don't Look Too Friendly - Tim & John
Dear Mama, I'm So Sorry - Tim & John
    Tennessee - Tim & John
Yodel Lay - Tim & John
Empty Pockets - Tim & John
Roadhouse - Tim & John & Andrew of RRE on Bass
    No Future Together
    Christopher Street
    Don't Break My Heart Again
Cat and Mouse - Tim & John

Too many awesome jams and too much funny banter to review right now but I wanted to at least get the setlist up for y'all. Wonderful to meet bgreen and his wife and Palaz was kind enough to say hello and welcome us. Dammit headzilla and Ponz...didn't get a handshake out of yas did I? Next time.

Trevor was missing and although Tim and John filled the stage, I missed him being there. It's always like a family member is missing when one of the guys can't make it. As tous said though, Tim and John fit so seamlessly.

Gotta run to work but a quick word about taping. First of all, many thanks to Mike the sound man as I'm certain that bgreen will attest, he couldn't have beeen more laid back and accomodating to us. The second thing to be said is that there are master tapers like bgreen and JohnD and then there's 20 year rookies like Reckless who's lucky to get all the wires hooked up properly and running on time. Well this night, the taping Gods were especially unkind to 'ole Reckless. As I feared, my DVD recorder fucked up finalizing the discs so much of my extreme effort to tape the evening was lost. The floor was bouncing so hard that I had to hold onto my tripod all night long. The little bit of good news is that the second disc did finalize the video part but has no audio. When I get bgreen's recording, I should be able to save from No Future on and synch it up....it'll take a few weeks but eventually, we should have some of it at least.....cripes...then my audience recording sounds great but is terribly off-balance. Hoping and expecting that bgreen's awesome 4 mic and board patch system does the sound justice.

Gotta run to work......catch up with ya later~

I was wondering about the house mix...Andrews electric wasn't that loud. Regular mandolins sounded good but that electric was kind of muddled, I thought.

Man, still trying to get caught up, it was great meeting all of you, sorry I wasn't more social. Wife was not feeling great after the trip and almost missed it to stay and relax in the hotel room (glad she didn't, 19 years together and we haven't missed being to a concert together yet) so between taping and making sure she was ok (or as she calls it annoyingly babysitting her) I was running around a lot. It was a great show, anxious to listen to the pull, transferring files now. Venue, sound guys, everything, top notch. One of the most friendly places to record for me yet. Absolutlely loved it.

The boys were on fire, absolutely fantastic. I haven't seen them have that much fun onstage in, well, I don't know if I ever have. Just fantastic!!!! All around, can't wait until I get to do it all again Friday ;-)

I hope this isn't the last time we see a yarn and RRE combo. I think it brought a little something special out of both camps!

Lots of pics to follow here soon for those that didn't make it.

Amazing meeting all of you, sorry again for not being real social. I'm sure we will all be meeting again soon.

    Reckless,

Let me first apologize for the douchebagery of my anti social behavior on Saturday. My only regret of the perfect show was not introducing myself to the 5guitars members. I was too busy inventorying the decor but that is no excuse. I promise to introduce myself at the next show and will monitor on here who's planning on attending so I search everyone out buy y'all a drink. In reading the post about the distance travelled it struck me that the venue, albeit in an obscure location, is somewhat at the geographic epicenter of a Mid Atlantic/New England fan base - another words a great place for many more shows. Hoping to get out to Harrisburg this Friday but having gone to Sullivan Hall, Philly, and now Newton, I may be out of "fun" coupons and my wife may have other plans for me this weekend. If so, well .... "Strikes AND Gutters" and I'll look at the schedule for another show.

thanks to yarn and railroad earth for a sweet night of music.
i honestly never thought i'd say this, but wow, i even liked the squeeze box ;)
adding the incredible fiddle playing by tim and mandolin wars with john and andrew was a great addition
(and almost made up for trevor not being there - missed ya trevor!)
rickyb got a break while a different andrew, gave him a break during the second set on bass, it was nice to see him enjoying it from the other side.

the crowd was pretty attentive and everyone seemed to have fun. it was great to see everyone that we were able to see.
thank you mr and mrs tous for the cd's, loving the covers one, you rock.
thanks bgreen for all of your work, looking forward to seeing/hearing everything all put together. hopefully we'll see you and mrs. bgreen soon.

    Southern Folk here.

Thanks for the taping/uploading.....enjoyed listening to the show yesterday here at work. When did Can't Slow Down, well slow down? I dig it.

I have been awaiting the band to make another deep south run for awhile and finally they are.....unfortunately it's festival season and I will be
roaming all over the south but not near a Yarn date for the next 4-6 weeks. I do have down making it up to Knoxville, TN for the 4/26 show.

Looking forward to the new album, YeP
