Here is a link to a cool music blog. I sent them an email a while back about Yarn. They thanked me for my email but have yet to post anything on the band. Maybe one of you can send them an email. They even have an artist drop box where you can send them some Yarn tracks. http://www.rslblog.com/
The 7pm start time and cumbersome location meant a sparser gathering for early opener Yarn, but if you weren’t there, you missed one the East Coast’s best Americana up-and-comers — one with on-point rhythms, solid jamming chops and a comfortably unpretentious vibe. The set was a good sampling of their originals, including New York City Found, though they, too, nodded to the day with a capable Friend of the Devil boosted by Worrell on keys. Catch ‘em.
So, going to see the Alternate Routes tonight. Never saw them before but what I'm hearing sounds very good. Although they're probably closer to the Counting Crows than Yarn, I did a search to see if they've ever played together...and...what the fuck...lookee here from back in 2009:
Since when is Yarn a straight-up Bluegrass band? Those cats must have been smoking something. Let's see the Alternate Routes wake up and write a song like Blake has done. That's what's great about freedom of speech. I think the Alternate Routes don't sound like Yarn or the Counting Crows. They have a much more poppy sound to them.
Ha! This is one of the more enjoyable threads I have read here. Did a little investigation and believe this to be the show in question. Lets see who agrees with Big Ole Bethany.
HA HA It's funny how only one song in the set goes over 10 minutes and not by much. On a side note I Loooooooooooooove Rock you Ready. They need to play that song more. I love the version they did at Sullivan Hall with Jay Wall on the Sax.
I've asked about Rock You Ready, which I love as well. Blake said they had been working on it, now this was early in the summer, so maybe sometime soon, or again maybe not. Last year when I asked they said they'd play it if they remembered how to play it!
Yarn got a listing for Saturday's show in the Washington Post's "going out gurus" as they posted on FB. That's the major entertainment guide down here. I'll let you know if the show sells out.
Great write up and great to see that the shirts are appreciated. Thanks for finding that Tous. I think that's jut an example of the effort that all of us put into making sure something we love keeps going. From this site, to taping, inviting friends out to shows, giving music away, hanging posters, etc. i could go on and on but I think you get the point. As Blake said, this is grass roots and we are a part of that.
From a St. Augustine, FL site... " We just started playing a song two days ago, have only practiced it twice at sound check, and we’re already honing it down in front of people. We have a whole lot of fun doing that. "
Went to see the Mallett Brothers this weekend at the Ocean Mist in Rhode Island, where Yarn has played a couple times, including a "sparsely" attended show in a snowstorm.
The club was playing the Almost Home disc before the show Fiday night. Pretty cool for a dive bar that they'll probably never play again.
On episode 165 of the Americana Music Show, Yarn front man Blake Christiana talks about meeting Caitlin Cary at Sadlacks, the Lou Reed influence on his music, and turning fans into friends. He also sets up and plays three tracks from Yarn's latest albium, Shine The Light On.
Also on this episode, blues from Whelan, honkytonk from Sturgill Simpson, country rock from the Kieran Ridge Band, blues rock from Lydia Loveless, greasy rock and roll from Southern Culture On The Skids, Memphis soul from John Paul Keith, and cow punk from Two Cow Garage.
Wow two to three times better than "Come On In"? The bar's set high. That's not going to be easy to top but knowing Yarn they will indeed top it. Any idea of a track listing?
Didn't really know where to put this, this thread isn't quite right, but it didn't seem right to start a whole thread of its own for this, so this was the best I could think of:
I've heard Blake appear on the Americana Music Show several times, and he plays their music. Just got an email that he is ending the show. Not sure if anybody else here was a fan, but I listened to it quite a bit:
