So this is the setlist from last night at the Southern Cafe and Music Hall. I guessed on a couple of the titles of the newer songs (actually I followed the guesses from the Hungry Tiger on 9-10 that was posted on Archive). Pretty sure I got the rest of it right. Open to correction.

An introduction, since this is my first post on these boards--I'm Ken. I first saw Yarn in 2009 I believe. I've seen them about 30 times since then. Close to 1/2 of those have been at Clementine's Cafe in Harrisonburg, VA, where they play frequently, but I've also seen them at some festivals, other venues, and a variety of settings. This was my 5th show of the year, I think. I have a number of opportunities coming up as well. Richmond on 10/17, Urbanna for the Yarn in a Barn on 11/7. I'm missing Harrisonburg on 11/6 because we already had Dead and Company tickets for that night. I'll be giving a review on any of those I attend as well, as I understand you all don't have a lot of active members from VA.

My wife, this was only her 5th or 6th Yarn show. She said it was the best she has ever seen them. She loves Hot Rod's expanded space to play with the four person band. I'm not sure it was my favorite but that is impossible for me to decide. I'm kind partial to some experimental noodling that we sometimes get. It was an awfully good show, though.

OK, other notes on the show--Pretty sure I got the right song when Jimmy Stelling started with them, but there is a chance he played with them on Abilene as well.

Driftwood was the opening band. They played a good set and I got their setlist, which I'll post if anybody is interested. Was 1/2 expecting they might have Claire Byrne join them with her fiddle.

Cool Southernman, thanks for the write up.

Hello Southern Man. I hated to have to miss this show but especially since I was at the Southern just he night before to enjoy Willie Watson's show (which was awesome.) I talked to Jimmy Stelling at Willie's show too not realizing he would be playing some the next night with Yarn. What a great place it must have been to see Yarn play- probably just the right size.

I am a new Yarn fan-and I am proud to say that I have seen them once every month this past year but had to break my record in September due to my son's wedding. I did see them twice one month so that sort of makes up for missing them last month. I live in VA too so we are lucky to be able to see them prettly often.

I am definitely looking forward to seeing them on the 17th at the Broadberry in Richmond but I want to warn you that the information you have for the Nov.7th show in Urbanna at the Barn Bash might not be true information. I think that Yarn played there previously - like 2 or 3 years ago and maybe has not been removed from their calendar template. I tried to find out how to buy tickets for the show and I can't find any info for that and it says that there are no scheduled events for the Barn Bash. They are not listed as playing for the Oyster Fest either. The strange thing is that an announcement for the Nov.7th show popped up on my facebook one day so I penciled it in on my calendar but can not find any information about it since. (I noticed back in August that a show in OBX was listed on the Yarn Schedule and it proved to be incorrect and was not corrected until shortly before the show date. So I think this might be the same kind of thing happening for this show.) So I just want to warn you that it may not be happening on the 7th.

    Hi Yoko,

I am trying to sleuth out the way to buy tickets to the Barn Bash. It is not a regular venue and apparently it is sort of stealthy to get tickets. I do believe they are playing this year because I am seeing at least two other bands that have been announced and neither of them played last year, so I don't think it is just an auto-repeat. I found an e-mail contact for last year and have e-mailed them. Plus it fits schedule-wise with the show at Clementine's the night before.

I will let you know if I hear anything. I haven't even decided if I am definitely going or not because it would mean going to Dead and Company the night before, then driving 2.5 hours to the Barn Bash, then another 2 hours home. I mean, I'd be down and I would probably camp but not sure if I am going to be able to convinc the wife about camping in November.

I will confirm that Yarn is definitely at Barn Bash this year. I believe this will be their 4th year there. It's a private event so you have to know someone to get an invite as they don't open it to the public and they try to limit the number of folks there. Also playing this year are Possum Jenkins, Trongone, Tarrant, Primate Fiasco, Old Grog String Band, and Pretty Heavy

Thanks Brouche for the explanation. I started to worry that FB was putting out some sort of scam so I am relieved to know they are not. I wonder if that was my invite then as it did take me to a page to put in my information and buy a ticket but I just penciled it on my calendar to check out later when I had time and then it was gone forever. Live and Learn right. Thanks again.

Keep your eye on Yarn's Facebook page. In years past they've posted about it and said to contact them if interested in attending. That's how I got in a few years ago
