Somewhat concerned that we are at over 3 weeks with no activity here. Granted, message boards have been mostly replaced by Facebook, etc. but we have come to a roaring stop.

As a northeast guy, we are just not getting our Yarn fix. While I am so happy the band brought back on the road videos, IMHO they could do a better job of keeping in touch with fans social media wise. All in the interest of getting ahead. Dont get me wrong, Yarn is so fan friendly in general and that is not taken for granted, but lately barely any shows posted, Twitter just rehashing tour dates, website for Yarn barely updated (Andrew still prominently on there), etc.

Heres a few "simple" suggestions from a rabid fan who is feeling like they are detaching from this band for the simple reason I dont have a lot of access to their stuff in the past five months or so.

-- The band could easily post ALL setlists on their site. Many bands do this and it would mean the world to us diehards to feel like we are on the road with them when we dont see them but once a year anymore. I crave setlists and reviews of live bands like Yarn.

-- Since taping of their shows is scarce to say the least lately we have huge holes in their shows compared to the past few years. Andrew used to tape and share. Can the band run a soundboard to a cheap recorder and post their shows? Widespread and other smaller bands do it frequently and I believe it leads to more tickets sold and albums sold. The band believes this or wouldnt allow taping, so if taping isnt happening, the band needs to get proactive and do it themselves and put it out there. Not costly, other than time..... which is a plenty on the road.

-- Please play more summer festivals. Perfect for this band, there are a million, and the band is barey hitting a few this summer.

-- Continue on the road and videos like that to bring us on the road with you. So happy this came back right when I was feeling this void. This helps and there is plenty more they could and have done in this area.

What do you all think? Love these guys so much and want to see them expand and be even more accessible. Just because I live in the northeast (I understand why they cant play here as much as they used to), but don't want to feel left out of loop. Any more suggestions on how they can keep us engaged in what they are doing and get an edge to keep them on top of playlists with all the other bands out there?

    Respectfully,
    jgoods

I'm only aware of a few times that there has been a set list. I know Tennessee keeps one for every show he attends. I too would have loved to see them at more fest this summer. I wonder if the lighter schedule is because they knew the changes were coming and needed time to transition.

I love seeing setlsits. Especially bands like yarn that mix it up. I don't think the schedule is so light. Colorado run would be a blast, and they are playing plenty soon. I'm jealous all the shows out of my area, but do travel to festivals since it's major music bang for my travel buck. And I think yarn would fit great on many festival lineups I see on jambase.com. Think it would spread their music and make then more accessible to hard cores who can only travel so much.

Either way, food for thought. Jonesin' to see a yarn show and see them blowup a little more as I think they deserve.

I would say that the truest thing is that facebook has sadly put message boards on the back burner of people's minds. In fact, I understand that there's a yarmy facebook group. I'm annoyed by the minutiae needed to wade through the average facebook account.

There are two times that this site gets some action; when Yarn plays up here in the Northeast and when they play down in North Carolina. I do actually get people still signing up here but nobody outside those two areas ever bother to review their show or post a setlist. If you go to the earlier pages on this site, you'll see any number of really enthusiastic fans who have just fallen off. Did they go to facebook? Stop seeing the band? What happened? It doesn't cost too much to run this place so I'll keep it for a while longer but who knows?

As for the band, I agree that it's a drag to be out of the loop and indeed, that transfers into a falling off of interest in the band in general. Damn facebook again, I would have preferred to have seen the personnel change reflected on the website first. It is strange having Andrew still pictured with the band. I'm still very interested in where the band is going but alas, there's simply no info anywhere. For a spell, it's understandable that they'll play some shows simply sans mando and the songs are great enough to pull it off but not in the long run. If this band does not add keys or at least get J Wall and Trevor back on board, they will remain a lesser thing than they were formerly.

As for them taping, it's simply too much of a pain in the ass for them. There's a lot more to it than folks realize and a lot more to going city to city than folks realize.

So let's hope something cool happens real soon~

I agree with what you said RC. I love the message board and would love to see more postings about shows. I get how hard it is ti tape properly and why that might be difficult for them to process and post on the road, etc. I think its just real wishful thinking that I could hear more of their stuff like I do so many other bands. We got so many shows posted for so long (thanks to guys like you and john, etc,) I guess I got spoiled. But thats what hooked me as well. So true about NE and NC posters. Never looked at it like that but it make sense.

I am hoping for keys as well, Jay Wall is in a band with Andrew now, so thats not going to happen I dont think. Blake's songwriting is so song they could go without mando I think if they reinvent a little. But like you implied, its frustrating to not be able to "follow" that progression and growth from afar. The on the road videos are fun (100 views only by the way), but we want music more. Give us morning songs, clips from shows, etc.

Im holding out hope and not giving up on this band or anything. Just craving that this recent perceived void gets filled soon.

My first wish is keyboard/organ. I think the band could really jam with that format.....what's Jeff Chimenti up to?!

I've been following this band since they played every Wednesday night at Hill Country in NYC. I've been there since the beginning. I've been through all the changes. I've always had a love affair with the keyboard/organ.That would get my vote. The band is too talented to not make it work. Andrew can't be replaced. Since the day I got a smartphone I started keeping track of the setlist. Yarn has a new album coming out sometime this year. When it does I am sure it will give us something to talk about. Any predictions on the track listing? I took my friend Sandi to her 1st Yarn show a few years ago. she told me before the show that she was going to try and get the setlist. I said good luck with that. She was surprised to find out they did not use a setlist. I can count on one hand all the times they use a setlist. One of my all time favorite Yarn shows I attended was never taped. Shortly after that show one of you introduced me to Tascam. I did not want to see another show I attended not get taped. I saw Yarn once at a club in Brooklyn. during the show they invited a friend on stage to play the flute. He brought some killer stuff to DBMHA. It was the best version of that song I've ever heard in person.
  3.
Fear not my friends, the band sounds better then ever. The songs sound better then ever. I'm writing more then I've written in years. This is the happiest the band has been in years and it shows on stage. With or without a 5th member, this band isn't going anywhere.

It's not like we didn't used to tour as a 4 piece all the time over the years, come to a show and decide for yourself. If it's not your thing, we will certainly miss you, but we will continue to welcome new fans and friends as the wheels keep turning. We pride ourselves in not only welcoming our fans into our shows but into our lives as well. It's been a conscience effort on our part, and we love it.

The new record is done and is on the shelf, maybe we will release it someday, but not now. We will however go back in the studio and make a better record and share that with you as soon as humanly possible.

We are all very excited and optimistic about the present and the future of Yarn. We would love it if all our fans joined us in that excitement and optimism. Everything we do, we do it for you, the fans. Or shall I say friends.

I'm looking forward to making it to more shows in the future. Looking at Bristol, USNWC and maybe OBX, all in August. You know I will be taping and probably dragging my dad along.

I've never been to a bad show. And I've seen Blake solo, and Yarn as a 4,5,6, and 7-piece band.

Also looking forward to new tunes.

I will continue to support the band and spread the word. I have no fear in Blake and the band. I look foward to hearing the new songs whenever they are ready.

Great discussion folks. Just going to fire away.

The setlist thing is hard, because I think more often than not there isn't one. When one does exist there are so many songs that are added (or not played) that unless there is a "rabid" fan or taper in attendance we are not going to see one. Look at the DC list and what was added. In Harrisburg there was no list and as diligent as I tried to be I know I got caught up in some tunes and forgot to write them down.

Andrew's departure while somewhat of a surprise in no way affects the Yarn product. Certainly we all loved his contribution(s) to the sound. I can tell you the first 2 shows after he left were awesome. Everyone picked up the void and it was nice to see some more from Rod and Ricky B. Abilene and MOL were as awesome as they have always been. The addition of keys J.Wall or whatever would be a great addition, but not necessary at all (in my opinion)

Love the road videos or whatever other connection they can give us to keep us in the loop.

For those of us lucky enough to see Yarn when they come to our neck of the woods (Northeast) I think in the recent past we have heard a number of tunes that are slated for the new album. Austin TX 1972, Carolina Heart, I'm so Tired, and I Let You Down to name a few. I love what I have heard and look forward to it's arrival. While I would love to have it sooner I know it will be freaking great when we get it.

Thanks for everybody's input here. We all share the same passion for Yarn and hope all good things come to them. I would love to meet you folks somewhere along the way so we can share some stories and carry on about our devotion to Yarn. Keep it going.

Good to hear from DA and Ricky.

Losing Andrew is no minor change in personnel to be sure but if everyone in the band (and out) is happier, then I'm happy. Another band we follow (Mallett Brothers) also saw the departure of their lead guitarist who, to a great degree was the "sound" of the band. However, if no one onstage is entirely happy being where they are it certainly shows and detracts from the performance,

Both bands (Yarn and TMBB) have the strength of the songwriting to fall back on, and honestly, that's most important. You can have the greatest guitarist in the world but if the songs aren't there it doesn't matter.

I look forward to seeing Yarn again and especially to hear new material. I also agree that keys would be a nice addition but it's also another mouth to feed so who knows.

Almost as surprising as AH leaving is the fact that they'll be back at the Hungry Tiger on Thursday, Sep 10. thought for sure they were not coming back there as it's just a crappy stage set-up there. For my fellow New Englanders...see you there and also maybe see you that Sunday the 13th at the Narrows in Fall River. Wonder where they'll be that Fri/Sat?

Oh...and Reckless? You can set-up a FB account and only follow Yarn and the Yarmy pages and not have to wade through a bunch of pictures of food! Seriously, I think FB is a great way to stay in touch with bands.

Thanks tous.....I might break down someday and join.

Nice new look to the website. Love the banner picture...someone did a great job.

There's also a Hungry Tiger show but it's too far off for a thread and besides, I think DA & Ricky read us all sobbing in here and said man, we gotta throw those guys a bone!
  7.
Happy 4th y'all. We'll throw you a bone anytime you ask.

The show in Boulder last night was great! I loved the small crowd, although I know it's not optimum from your point of view. And I was impressed with your 4-person sound. I still miss Andrew, but you guys made up for it.

I drove up from the Springs for the show. You're playing here tonight. There's only a few things that would make me miss that, and The Band of Heathens playing at Cervantes in Denver is one of them. And that's only because it's the Heathens' only Denver show. But I'm sending my wife and friends to see you tonight. And I'll see you guys twice on Saturday. It's a great weekend: Yarn - Heathens - Yarn - Yarn, in three days!

Sweet....hope it all went as expected~

Big Love and Best wishes to Yarn as they forge ahead and explore new sounds, instrumentation and friendships. My two cents is that this board went quiet cuz a lot of us are in the Northeast , and the guys have been out of the region for a while...I'm looking forward to hearing whatever comes next, as I have a ton of faith in Yarn's songs and musicianship. Keys would surely be interesting, but I'd love to see an Ace fiddler in the mix over the longer haul. Really looking forward to Woodbridge, NJ next Wednesday, and that one's a FREE show too! Woo Hoo!

Hello friends...Yarn fans are friends. I wanted to share an honest review of the 4 piece Yarn after putting another 1100 miles on the odometer to see as much of the Rocky Mountain tour leg as I could make happen over the last 10 days. To provide a frame of reference, I have put over 7000 miles on my good ol car to see this great band 22 times since I first discovered them in the spring of 2012. I did have the wonderful experience of seeing them for two sold out shows out on the East coast when I flew out to see Yarn do a New Year's Eve show in Virginia as well. I love this band. I've considered them my favorite band in the world since I downloaded my first show off of archive.com and like many of you...I was so curious to find out what the Yarn experience is like without the talents of Andrew. After seeing 4 shows in CO last week and Park City on Thursday and Salt Lake City last night...I feel like they have never been better. The 4 piece band rocks! They are happier than they've ever been (just ask them), and the energy and chemistry being fueled by that shows on stage and it sounds better than ever! I thought I'd miss the ability of Rod and Andrew to go back and forth as well as when the electric guitar and mandolin would play together (because I loved that sound of the two playing together) but I don't miss it. Not at all actually. Rod is shredding the guitar like never before and it's awesome to see how he plays and his stage presence now that he's no longer sharing the stage. Hot Rod is a bad bad man. And Ricky B and Bobby Bonhomme (so great to have him back...he's the best there is) are so in sync with one another right now it's just perfect. Blake's rhythm guitar is fantastic as always as are the newest tunes he's been penning over last month. "This is the Year" is a great new tune that is an infectious sing along just like so many of Blake's great songs and it has me "raising my glass to a new beginning!"
They don't need keys, or anything else...they are on fire right now as a 4 piece and it gets better every night. If the band decides to pick up another artist to once again become a 5 piece, I'll welcome it because I trust these 4 guys and they're not going to allow anything to screw up the chemistry they have currently. Blake is one of the finest song writers in the world, and the songs sound great with the new 4 piece line up! Abilene, DBHA, Strikes & Gutters, Empty Pockets and all the older tunes that we've all heard and loved so many times with a mandolin in the mix all sound as great as they ever have...in my opinion better. I know I'm preaching to the choir on here...but trust me. Get out and see them as soon as you can and just as it was with myself and all the other die hard lovers of Yarn out here in the great state of Utah, I anticipate you'll love the shows as much as you ever have. I loved the band enough to fly across the country for two shows when Andrew was with em, and I look forward to continuing to put miles on the car and hopefully sooner rather than later, fly out to some more East coast shows and hopefully share the dance floor, and the good times and tunes with many of you who are on this board and care about this band as much as I do. They're better than ever.
Side note: The SLC show was taped so hopefully it turned out great and we can get it available to all of you soon.

Wow, Utah! You sure are a devoted Yarniac, if you don't mind me sayin'! Great reviewing! I am amped for this Wednesday, it sounds infectiously FUN!!!

I wonder which show you got turned on to first on LMA, and how? Glad to hear someone such as yourself, who is so commited to this band and music, as they well deserve!!!
  13.
DJ Easy Wind, thanks for the kind words (Yarniac). My first music love was the Black Crowes. In 2006 I saw my first live Crowes show and it changed my life in ways I could never have imagined. I discovered then that my drug of choice was in fact great live music. I was on LMA looking for a Rich Robinson show and scrolling through I stumbled upon Yarn...Albany NY 11-17-2011. What caught my eye were the covers...Neil Young's One of These Days, Fred Neil's Everybody's Talking, and Lou Reed's Oh Sweet Nuthin and Pale Blue Eyes. Classics! I said to myself...any band who covers such great tunes must be worth a listen! As soon as I started to listen, with Blake thanking the crowd and for being there and then opening with Maybe you're Mine. I knew right away I had made a great decision to download the show. To my pleasant surprise I found myself loving their tunes more than the cover choices that led me to listen. I never looked back. Have fun on Wednesday!

YEAH UTAH, thank you for sharing the same passion as so many of us do (including DJ Easy and myself). I echo everything you put into words. I agree whatever they decide to do (or not) will be better than ever. Favorite and love are words I use often when spreading the word about Yarn. Certainly some of the finest musical talent I have ever seen, happy to call them friends, proud to call them family. There is great satisfaction turning people onto these guys and then hearing their description. Keep spreading the word and sharing the love. From NJ to Utah we have got the boy's covered. Hope we get to meet you out on the road. DJ Easy, see you Wednesday first rounds on me.

That's cool Utah....the 11/17/11 was my recording and one of my finest to date. God bless Yarn for letting us tape...you're proof that it picks up more fans! There were about 12 of us there that night but the show has a few thousand DLs thanks to our good friend John D from the archive.

I can't make Wednesday but the Hungry Tiger and Wormtown ar on the schedule~
