I would call it a neighborhood dive bar with an owner that loves music. It's a very tough room to get booked into.
If tapers are going, there's like one table in the middle that would be good for mic stands...other than that, a tough room to tape in due to the size.
It's looking like I'm facing a choice between this show and the festival weekend. I can't miss work on Friday so it might be too much to try to do both. I will likely have to skip this one. I can jump out of work a little early and make Yarn's set in Greenfield on Friday.
Just woke up and it wasn't a dream, Yarn rocked New Haven. I'll pop in later for a better review unless someone beats me to it but here's the setlist:
Old Shoes Lucky Man Down On Your Luck Christopher Street One Man's Trash Bluebird Wine (Rodney Crowell) Bad Bad Man Salt Creek > Woman On The Interstate Fussin' & Fightin' I'm So Tired Strikes & Gutters Alone On The Weekend New York City Found When The Summer Ends Turn The Light Off Abilene Shine The Light On encore Slip Slidin' Away (Paul Simon)--Blake solo acoustic in front of stage
Andrew was en fuego, Chemre and Ricky B were in the pocket, Rod was picking faster than usual and Blake was having a blast as were the rest of us.
Notable highlights were:
- Lucky Man has morphed into a faster tempo - Christopher Street - first indication Andrew was ready to rock - the extended Salt Creek jam - guitar interplay on I'm So Tired - drunk sing-alongs that were actually not that bad (excluding myself of course)
This Thursday night crowd had the weekend Hungry Tiger crowds beat. Hopefully their first time at Cafe Nine won't be the last.
