Bummer about Hopped and badlab! They're both so good at show recaps; there talent will be missed on 5Gs! Glad to hear you're able to make it, though - see you tonight!
Hope you all have/had fun. Sent the day with my family in Asheville, going to a friends winery grand opening tomorrow. Look forward to hearing it, glad you made it Dale.
In usual fashion, I don't keep up with set lists. Hopped taped so I'm sure we'll see it soon. All I can say is NEVER MISS A RALEIGH YARN SHOW! The guys always seem to hit another level when they get in Raleigh and it didn't hurt that they shared the bill with James Justin and Co. What an amazing DBMH with both bands on stage together, a little Sweet Home Alabama cover, absolutely scorching 50 Ways, and a reappearance of Rod's Tele. Great sound all night long!
It was a great show. Nice sounding room. $5 bottle beer ain't NYC prices, but it sure as hell shouldn't be Raleigh prices.
Sweet Home was a definite surprise. I went all festy-style and mixed a few intoxicants. Got about 30 minutes video of JJ & Co and about 45 of Yarn. I really didn't think I was going so I hadn't charged batteries and cleared memory cards. Yarn joined JJ & Co for a pretty kick-ass Helpless at the end of their set. I wasn't manning the cam and it was a static shot so Andrew and Rod are out of the frame for most of that one.
Will try to get this thing done tonight if I can find a cable. I will post some videos tonight.
Thanks for the beer, Desperate Amy. Thanks for the ride, Brouche. Thanks for the <deleted>, Joe.
Good sound on that video, hopped - thanks for posting! It was such a pleasant surprise to see you! And a bit of relief too knowing that you were taping and that my limited recap wouldn't be the only documentation of the evening! I'd never been to a show at the Southland Ballroom and was pleased to find that the sound was just about perfect!
When hopped gets the archive file uploaded, you guys will hear the little event that happened midway through the show (can't remember what song) - a guy got up on stage and looked out at the crowd trying to have a "I am a Golden God" moment but no one was feelin' him and we were all kinda like, "Would you please get off the stage?!" I think he expected Security to have gotten him by this point, so with no better game plan, he lobes a full beer bottle straight up in the air and a shower of beer falls on the boys and over the crowd, with the bottle nearly clocking Ricky B in the head. Security had gotten there at that point and I imagine he was promptly escorted out. It wouldn't have been a funny scene if had ruined Yarn's or the venue's equipment, but everything appeared to remain in working order and Blake made a couple jokes so we all had a good laugh! My friends and I kept laughing at how the crowd collectively shut down his moment... awkward :)
Aside from the sideshow, it was a great night! Lots of old school Yarn plus some fun covers... The Loner and Lies I've Told were probably my top two favs, but you know how it is - favorite song is always the one they're playing at that moment! :)
Looking forward to hearing the recording, hopped! Thanks again for taping, and de nada regarding the beer; you have earned it and many more, my friend!
