Feel free to use this thread to post your Yarn song of the moment. My current Yarn song of the moment is These Bars Don’t Look To Friendly. I was listening to a show yesterday when that song came on. It was so good that I had it on repeat. My song of the moment tends to change as soon as one song ends and another one begins. lol However right now that's my song.

"Lies I've Told". Seriously, is there a better song than that? Answer? Yes, "Music's Only Outlaw".
  3.
just listened to the lake george version and the bank street one (this whole zoo)

the lake george version just soars, the lyrics, the riffs, melody . . . everything about this song just works and
melts together into a yummy yummy song !! now, i'm hungry.

the bank street version is still the same great song BUT i'm just venting here, but why can't people just shut the fuck up once in a while !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
there were some people there really enjoying the music, dancing and having a fun time BUT
they also sometimes just stood in the middle of the floor and yelled/talked to each other and then one of the dudes, who was
like 6' 13'', parked himself directly in front of our mics and rambled on and on just completely ignoring this song?
i can hear his conversation better than i can hear blakes' voice. i just don't think i could ever be that drunk
and/or oblivious to my surroundings and other people in the world with me ?

ok, rant over, it's just my opinion, and i'm not wrong ;)

On the one hand, I give him (and his peeps) credit for being there and enjoying the show enough to buy merch. On the other hand...absolutely...STFU !

hi tous - glad to see you here

and i know, i know, i didn't want to sound too snarky. i gave them props for really enjoying the band when they
were actually listening . . . and i never want to marsh anybody's mellow yo. PLUS, i realize i am in a bar. anything
goes at the bar and there's a lot that i like about that. the other side of the coin i guess.

tangled....when I went to see Yarn in NJ....there was this woman who just didn't shut up. I kept looking over at her...giving her the kiabash....eventually she finally stopped. I don't know why people can't be quiet, either.

Anyway, I've been singing Wishing Well for about a week now. I need to learn the lyrics....I'm just making a mess of that song. ;)

We just have to get these guys out of bars and into music halls!

    Here you go Lovelight ;)

    Wishing Well
Words & music by Blake Christiana

All alone at the wishing well I thought
Just a handful of pennies for all the dreams I got

And maybe this time it grants me what I want
Maybe this time it gives me what I need

All alone at the wishing well I see
Other lost souls dreaming just like me
And maybe this time it grants us what we need
Maybe this time it gives us what we want

    I don’t know
How many restless nights I’ve slept alone
And I was wishing I was out on the road
    Looking back
I was out on the road
    With no regret

All alone at the wishing well I thought
Just a handful of pennies for all the dreams I got
And maybe this time it grants me what I want
Maybe this time it gives me what I need

    I don’t know
How many restless nights I’ve slept alone
And I was wishing I was out on the road
    Looking back
I was out on the road
    With no regret

    I don’t know
How many restless nights I’ve slept alone
And I was wishing I was out on the road
    Looking back
I was out on the road
    With no regret

    HA! Thanks, RC!

I will say, though, wishing wells, fountains....they do work. I (and my kids) threw many a penny in the fountain at the mall. In 1994 the Rangers won the Stanley Cup. I'm still waiting for a thank you. ;)

by the way...are you going to Burlington tomorrow night? Let me know...I'll have the junior say hello.

After reading the all the lyrics I noticed that Yarn has a bunch of songs about trying to make big. Not to mention all of the songs about heartache and ex girlfriends and alcohol and drugs.

I was at a GA concert once and had this big drunk biker chick walk by me pushing me out of the way while giving me the death stair and claiming I spilled her beer. She wanted to fight me. I feared for my life. She could have killed me. Security had to ask her to leave because she tried to push her way up front knocking over everyone in sight. Once they flashed the flashlight on her she ran like a little girl. Why do people pay good money to talk at shows? It’s one thing if it’s in a bar and the show was free. I have gone to shows that cost lots of $$ and people just talk the whole time. I can’t stand when people talk at shows or push there way up front when I have been standing there all day and when I get stuck behind a tall person. Sorry tall people but as a shorty I find that unless I am up front or in the Balcony I can never see.

    - seems like all the BEST songs from many performers stem from trouble earlbny !

oh the dichotomy of feeling so satisfied with such beautiful art that comes from such pain and suffering by the creator of that art.
does that make sense? i need more coffee . . .

people who talk through live performances = enigma ;)

I gotcha. 2 of my fav bands aside from Yarn (Counting Crows & Ryan Adams) have tons of songs like that. They put everything on the line. It's real stories. They lived to tell about it. In concert the Crows take you on an emotional roller coaster. It's intense. It's not gangsta rap where they rap about guns and cars and Hoes and other fantasy's.

BTW I can't forget to mention Townes and Gram. They also had tons of songs songs about heartache.
  7.
Back to Christopher Steet....holy smokes. A few of my top Yarn moments are right after Blake sings 'round Christopher Street and the band drops back into the rhythm (no musiciam here so be kind I do my best ;)) and there's that four count where Andrew is just hanging and getting set to SOAR on that rippin' lead that he takes.

Those few seconds reminded me of this thread title. Indeed although at times there's a lot going on, Yarn never gets so frantic that the value of a moment of time is lost.
  8.
Blake and Shane write from the heart and totally put it all out on the line. I often compare Yarn to Ryan Adams, Rilo Kiley and even Jenny Lewis, in the fact that they all tell it like it is in their lives, good or bad. I appreciate that in an artist and as a singer/songwriter myself, look for that in the music I listen to. There's nothing like well written poetry set to beautiful music. :)
  9.
Yes agreed except that thankfully, Blake doesn't get knocked off his bar stool when the slightest glitch happens at a show like our buddy Ryan!

I got to 24 Ryan shows in 13 States in the past 3 years and boy did I see/hear some doozies ;)

It's so refreshing to head off to Yarn and know that the guys will bring 100% to the stage. Speaking of that dammit, I haven't seen Yarn in almost a MONTH!!! Can't wait til 9/11~
  10.
oh man, I hear ya on Ryan live shows. Been to many myself and he's such a DIVA. He yelled FUCK YOU MAN! and stormed off once at Webster Hall when an audience member cried out "Woo Hoo Bryan Adams!" and he didn't come back for like 10 minutes. Baby...but I still love his music. Hopefully his marriage to Mandy Moore will calm him down a little, she seems normal. hehe...this is why it's cool to know that Blake and the boys will not act like that, no matter how drunk they get! :)

Speaking of not seeing a Yarn show for a while, it's been over a year for me since I moved to Austin. I will be in NYC for the Sept. 12th show at Sullivan Hall, and I couldn't be more excited. So, if you're going, come say hi! I'll post later closer to the show in case anyone wants to meet up!
  11.
Oh Man, I'm thinkin' of it but we'll be at Manchester the night before. It is a Saturday though so we'll have to see. I'm just so busy this time of year that it's tough to lose a whole weekend to playin'!

Any chance of you making Friday in CT?

    Anyone else? earlbny? Ponz?
  12.
Not going to be able to make the CT show, I'm not flying into NYC until the 12th, so I'll just miss that one. I'm so pumped for the Sullivan Hall show though, I'll probably try to set up a video recorder if I can and still enjoy the show. hehe...
