I was talking to Blake before and he said he wrote 13 brand new songs for tonight’s show. So think of it as a CD release party for the next record. LOL I am J/K however it would not surprise me if he really did.
Full band including Jay Wall. I am always amazed how Jay Wall can jump on stage after not playing with the guys in months and it's as if he plays with them every night. How does he do it?
Setlist 1 set no breaks or encore.
I Gotta Go Turn The Light Off Almost Home NYC Found Lies I've Told Jam > Down on Your Luck Can't Slow Down Annie +Sax = Heaven. It sounded different. I so dug every second of it. The Loner (The band found there Happy Place) Abilene Angel Place That Halo (New Song but Iv'e heard it before) That's Just Fine (Another new song but iv'e also heard it before) (The Band found there Happy place again) Bobby Weeks Needles And Pins (written by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono) (The song was originally recorded by Jackie DeShannon. Other hit versions of the song were recorded by The Searchers, Cher, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with Stevie Nicks, Willie DeVille, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Smokie and by the Ramones.) (Ramona Bell AKA Shane Spalding on lead) Bad Bad Man (Some girls on stage dancing during Bad Bad Man) Extended Jam + Salt Creek > Woman on the interstate Fussin' and Fightin' (Singin Jim Croce) End of show
I missed my train into the city and ended up missing the opening band so I cant tell you if they were good or not. Yarn on the other hand killed it. It was just another day at the office. I bought a few stickers and said hello to Reckless and tous and the band and then headed home. Sorry if I did not get to say hello to the rest of you 5guitar peeps. My apologies to Blake for not making it to the after party. The Subway was all screwed up so I ended up just going back to Penn Station and headed home. There is nothing like a NYC home town show. I can't name any band or artist other then maybe Ryan Adams who would play 2 brand new songs that have yet to be recorded at a CD release show. I wont even try to guess how many people were at the show. I will say the merch was flying off the table. They ran out of shirts. My ears are still wringing and I am still smiling from ear to ear. More to come when I am got some sleep and am fully awake.
Great sounding room! Great energy from the band! Only Yarn could make a sub 2 hr set feel like you just witnessed a 4 hr marathon. So happy that we were able to make this trip!
Happy to report that it's 3:44 am and I am up not because I couldn't sleep, but because I just got home from the show & after party. Nothing like a Yarn show to give you the energy for a long car ride. Great meeting the few I did it's always nice to put a face to a name... hopefully next time I will meet more of you. I forgot to buy you guys a round, but actually maybe I'm glad I did, cause I would have really had empty pockets (and bank account) if I did at the Hiro! Have a great time those of you who are seeing them tomorrow. Thanks in advance to the tapers!
Had a nice uneventful ride into the city which is always welcome and then found street parking beside the venue. Caught up with empty_pockets and tapernate for a quick drink and hello at the place above the venue. didn't have much to do to set up as Jeff was kind enough to patch me to his rig so all I had to do was plug in a mini cord. Unfortunately, the recording's excellent up until Abilene at which point, my recording completely falls into nothing but screeching digi-noise. I'll have to figure out whether my recorder's glitching, my mini hdsd card is flawed or perhaps something went wrong with Jeff's feed. Not to worry as there were several tapers but I will have to figure some stuff out. Nice to see James, the taper we met at his first show at the Hungry Tiger the last time....we have a new Yarner!
Truly a pleasure to see Mr.+ Mrs. Brouche and hopped up again and to meet badlab.....so glad y'all made the trip up North....gonna try to swing South in June to return the visit. As earlbny said, a terrific show and the sound in that venue was about as good as it gets; just superb. I can't believe that place is going to close down next week; what a shame.
Nice to see you Stoney....hope you get some sleep! Thanks for the setlist earlbny. tous....you two need to wear different shirts.
.....oh yeah, Jack brought me back to get my pick-up truck at my school at 2:00am and as I was pulling out, a cop went by and of course, was curious as to what I was doing driving around from the back of the school at that hour so he pulled me over for a nice chat....literally, good guy just checking things out. I thanked him for keeping an eye out on our school and he sent on my way~
Great show last night. The band was en fuego. Jwall being there was a nice surprise. Ramona Bell rocked it. Great meeting some new folks. Loved the sound in the Hiro , but $8 for a High Life, no wonder the place is closing. Got a free Double IPA from a bartender at Blind Tiger after we commented on her UNC shirt.
Thank you Ricky B for the falafel recommendation. Brouche is feeling the hot sauce this morning. Badlab and I felt good enough for a short jog this morning.
I look forward to coming back to the city when we can spend more time.
We listened a bit yesterday on the drive to Philly. Sounded great to us. I know empty pocket's tape got screwed up at some point. I'm sure Nate will post up some six channel heat at some point. I shoulda brought the laptop. I coulda had both shows tracked and flac'd by now.
I will be posting my sources Tuesday on bt.etree.org please anyone who want up my shows anytime to the archive I'll also be posting Philly and dc this week also
Yes, RC it was the patch. I think there was a problem with the preamp at the Hiro, perhaps I had a bad battery and power start running out or the levels overloaded. Very unusual. I taped Yarn 28 times now and never had a problem with batteries or running out of card room. I guess it's good taper karma to have a technical issue the night there were many other tapers and not on the night I was taping alone. My DC and Philly shows turned out well.
RC, I've been busy all day tying up loose ends for an event I'm running tomorrow. I know the noise starts in Abilene, but I haven't had time today to go back and find the exact spot. It was nice to meet you and Jack before the show and I hope to see you at future shows.
Breaking News: This just in President Obama passes a bill that requires all American citizens to listen to Yarn. Seriously how can you not click play on that video and not start dancing.
Wow. What a fantastic weekend. Driving up with our crew, drinking great beers ( I abstained from the $8 Miller High Life), meeting up with childhood friends and family, meeting some 5g'ers, taking in the ambiance of two great cities, and seeing the best damn band in America firing on all cylinders two nights in a row after a long road trip. I gotta say without a doubt this is the Best of All Time Down on Your Luck to date, I am sure the others will agree. What a fantastic surprise to add the extended intro. I can only echo what the others said about how awesome this weekend was. Brouche, Mrs. Brouche and hopped it was a pleasure. These were my 17th and 18th shows and boy do they only get better each time.

tous, you make me nervous with comments like that. I almost went and checked my tracking. I tried to get this one out before the boys with the big mics and board feeds post the real heat. Don't know how I'd never heard Needles and Pins before, but that shit rocked.
I ended up getting home to Greensboro, NC around 8 p.m. Sunday and was at my favorite bar by 8:45. I was chatting with the bartender and he is headed to NYC for the last show at the Hiro this Friday. Quite a coincidence.
I'll try to have Philly up by tomorrow morning, but it may be Thursday. To my ears, Tin Angel sounds better but the chatter is a bit distracting on the quieter songs.
