hey guys, I've been "blessed" enough in this life to have been born into an indian family and this weekend I'll be spending time in Richmond VA for the saurashtra patel cultural samaj Convention. Basically I sit around being bored while my parents discuss my possible marriage matches with other parents. (because i am 23, past my prime and should be working on having children at this point in my life) regardless of what I think/whome i am interested in.
Basically I'm looking for some escape, preferably good LIVE MUSIC! I can always sneak away, however I've heard that Richmond is not the safest of towns to wander about in. totally not the same as raleigh or boone. Anyone have any ideas?? or ever been to richmond?
any help/advise will be greatly appreciated! much love, great peace, smeeta
thanks ant5, i ended up catching the tail end of Chuck Brown who was performing right outside of the hotel that we're staying at.
They actually set up a few interesting challenge courses for my age group which were surprisingly fun. I'm wearing my red white and blue proudly today and getting ready for the fireworks.
Hey girl! Richmond is a great place. Carytown is an area that is great for walking around. Lots of cool shopping, thrift shops, and places to eat and have drinks. The National is one of the local venues there and it's pretty cool. Not sure who is playing there this weekend, but you can check the site. "The Fan" is also another great part of town, but that's mostly just awesome houses. I'd say Carytown is your best bet. Have fun!
Oh wait, it looks like you were already there. Oh well. Too bad, the Avett Brothers are playing the National Friday night.
yep i made it out of there, with the official "old maid" title and half of the saurashtra patel community trying to "help the cause"...
reckless I'd love to have the rents drop in, however if the page's content is not religious (only hinduism at that) or pertaining to some crazy indian soap opera, they wont even give it a chance. oh well, such is life
MK, its cool. I was all over Jambase.com looking for shows that were in the area, and i definitely saw that the avetts were coming to town but i wasn't around long enough. Thanks for the heads up anyhow!
