Well one year ago on 9/10 we all set sail in the East River!
This year we'll all be at the Arch St Tavern.....I've really been talking this one up and I think we'll have a good showing. Now if we could just convince earlbny and Ponz to shoot up from the city .....and Stoney, head East girl....canned and ant, book a flight, hopped Brouch Badlab and Amy, catch a train! Spinner....wherever the hell you're from, start driving now! Sue....there's still time to get back across the pond~
Sounds like a good time but my friend's Deep River Music Fest is that day with Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Big Daddy Love, and Ralph Roddenbery. So we'll both know we are grooving to some amazing tunes at the same time. I'm having to scale back on fall music travel. The lifestyle I've become accustomed to is relatively (to my income) expensive.
We will rest assured that we will be able to hear the Yarn show later and y'all will be able to hear all the Deep River Music Fest sets (all LMA bands!) later.
Hmm? I am so tempted to hit up this show. My aunt and uncle live in West Hartford. My brother in law is the GM of a fancy Mexican restaurant on Long Island. About a year or 2 ago they opened another location in West Hartford.
Would love to join you but it's a no-go for me :( BUT - we'll be visiting family in central NJ around Thanksgiving so I'm trying to talk the ol' man into going to the Philly show on 12/3. I'd also really like to hit the Stroudsburg show on 11/26, but it's his 20-year HS reunion that night, and he's not too keen on me wandering the Pocanos by myself! Going to try to wrangle some family members to join me - wish me luck! The current schedule has the next Raleigh show at the end of January, but I'm desperately ;) hoping some new dates for the fall/winter will pop up soon...
My 20th high school reunion is the same night as the Hiro Ballroom CMJ show. Doesn't matter either way, I'll be at the Unknown Hinson show here in Greensboro.
So tempting. If I didn't have 3 shows coming up in Nov. I'd be mighty tempted to pass the idea by my wife. I get to see 5 Yarn shows this year! Not bad for a Colorado boy. Maybe next year I'll fly out east and do a tour. 8-)
RC, there's no way I could hang with the Real Housewives of New Jersey that he went to high school with! Oh my gawd! ;) Hopped, definitely a solid call on reunion v. Unknown Hinson! Canned - happy for all the failthfuls out west! (Even if I'm bummed for NC! :)
Wish I could go, but I will be helping out at the hippie fest that is going on 8 minutes down the road from me... it's the first of a hopefully annual thing and I'm hoping next year they will invite Yarn-- then I can hire them to do a yard party, have a good old barn dance and invite you all... Two days of music and camping? an acoustic set by the bonfire? cross your fingers. Amy... Oh my Gawd! I'm from Jersey! (I just had the sense to leave) Just got back from taking my 16 year old and her friends to Railroad Earth... we are totally in for Stroudsburg so if you need a chaperone... Oh, and I have to mention, wore my Yarn t tonight, my kid had the one on from Spinner and when I went to get the other girls they had their yarn t's on too... it was a little embarrassing, but hey, we Yarmy members had to represent. The girl selling glass pipes said "you guys all must really like to knit, huh?" But we had a few people approach us to say they were fans as well... perhaps there will be some google searches for Yarn tonight?
Yup, another one of those shows where ya can't remember a better one. They played everything in two sets.....tape ran out to 2:55! The band had a long sound check as the stage was missing a monitor for Blake and there was a huge bass boom going on at first. They got that settled and things shaped up. The Tavern has very a high ceiling so no chance to clip mics real close. Still, I was able to toss up a mic stand dead center from the front table and what I sampled sounds superb. The sound dude was really nice and really dug the band.
The only bummer of the night is that Blake lost his voice as the night went on. He said that that never happens to him so it was a little frustrating.....tried singing Madeline to quiet things down but struggled with that as well so they ended with four covers with Trevor and Shane splitting vocals.
Set One
Annie The Dirt Road Can't Slow Down It's All Over Now My Wasted Life Along The Way Christopher Street More Good Lady Empty Pockets Tennessee When The Summer Ends Down On Your Luck Bad Bad Man Extended Andrew/Robert Salt Creek Woman On The Interstate
Set Two
Abilene Southern Rock Song Liquor Love Almost Home NYC Found Madeline Music's Only Outlaw>For What It's Worth>Outlaw Sugaree- Trevor One More Saturday Night - Trevor Shama Lama Ding Dong - Shane Thrill Is Gone - Shane
Another ridiculous Christopher Street like the 5/20/11 one with Andrew going all silly but this time, Blake forced the vocal and he won out ;) Terrific Music's Only Outlaw and Blake said the Buffalo Springfield tune just came to him...........there's something happening here.....
All the usual suspects were there and it was cool that Ponz was a weekend roadie with the band and made the trip up. I had 4 of my best friends along....my buddy Dave being the biggest Yarn fan among them.
This was the third 9/11 in a row that I've spent with Yarn and that's a tradition I'd love to keep rolling. So thanks again Yarn for being ya'll and for letting us tape. I'll try to master this one and get it out to tous asap.
....well I was able to listen all the way through this one while mastering. Sounds fantastic and it'll go out to tous today.
A couple notes: The first few songs, as tous pointed out at the show, were played up tempo to a marked degree...Yarn on speed! Also, Andrew's outro solo on Along The Way was not the usual lilting and melodic type. It was instead the down and dirty almost distorted/harsh(in a good way) kind. Very different than the ones I've heard. Certainly a big change from the 6/18 Schenectady version.
Trust me...you have GOTTA d/l this show. Uploading now. One of RC's best sounding shows and one of the most fun Yarn shows I've seen - at least until this weekend's double-header.
"I'm gonna try something...it just came to me." - leading into "For What It's Worth"
