Keep safe all you folks up north - it's going to be a long night...

Thanks Amy. I've been thinking about all of our North Carolina/Southern friends and I hope everyone fared well. I'm in Southern New England so we have a long way to go and my stream is already over its banks. It's pooooouring and it ain't letting up anytime soon. Obviously still have power but who knows for how long. Don't need to heat, we can cook with gas, light with oil, and my ipod's all charged up so we're as ready as we can be.

No worse for wear down here - hoping it works out the same for you too!

I live in Long Beach Long Island. I live 4 short blocks from the beach and four short block from the bay. It's a barrier island. My town has been all over the news. We had a direct hit. The Governor of NY was in my town today. Some of the crazy and brave stuck around. They all wanted to get on TV. I fled town and headed to my sisters house. They finally opened the roads into my town. My house is fine. Except for some water in my basement and no power. I am spending another night at my sisters house. All do considdering I made out ok. It could have been a lot worse. Mother nature can be cruel but it spared me and my family.

Glad to hear you and yours are OK Earl. Our house in Raleigh, NC was nearly hit by a big tree that fell from across the street - it took out a stone retaining wall in front of the house . My neighbor emailed me some pics in Switzerland. What a headache. Grateful that was all though! Hope every one else fared well.
