Hey all, Blake here. I would like you all to make an extra push to get people out to our Hiro Ballroom show in NYC for CMJ Music Fest on October 22nd. We've got a couple months till the show, spread the word like crazy, pull out the extra stops, we want to make a stir. Call WFUV, request our music, paint graffiti on all the buildings, send up Yarn smoke signals, do whatever you can do, and lets pack this place. It's gonna be a fun night, The Discosticks are hosting a Yarn afterparty directly following the show, PLEASE spread the word far and wide. LOVE YOU ALL! Thanks for being so damn supportive, we're getting closer...
You can count me in. You know I will do my part and would not miss a NYC show forthe world. I hope to see all of you at the show. We should make tee shirts so we can all become a walking billboard. lol
Always thought the DrunkenAngel was Blaze Foley... I guess there are two... Thanks earlbny for the handy dandy websites... will definitely make use of them. Sent up a Yarn smoke signal and just got an offer to crash at a old friends place that I've been TRYING to get to a Yarn show for a while now (seriously, annoyingly, nagging him) but wouldn't you know it... my cousin just had to pick this weekend to get married... Wonder if the bride and groom would consider changing the date....
I just wanted to point out to you all that Oct 22nd is the day AFTER that guy who was predicting the end of the world changed the end of the world date to-- Which means those of you who can go to the Hiro Ballroom will be in Heaven (AKA: a Yarn show) ...and sadly, I will be in Ohio.
LOL Ill take my chances as well. I went to a CMJ show a few years ago and it was a happening jammed packed event. Expect a lot of newbies to be at the show. Yarn will be selling a lot of merch and have a lot of new fans after the show.
add me to the list of the Jealous - I'm getting used to it being here in Switzerland though - I've got jealousy SCARS. I'm coming back to the States for 2 weeks in Nov and Yarn won't be anywhere close to where I'll be - though I will catch a Stringcheese Incident show in Nashville - that'll help some. It is indeed a musical wasteland here in Zürich ... I feel like I'm in exile. Then there's a cool festival in March in Amsterdam I'll be attending : http://www.jaminthedam.com/ But you KNOW I'd rather be at a YARN show ...
I hear ya, sue! My brain's been working on ways to get to another show before January, but chances are slim unless they book something back here in Raleigh... And like you, I'm still hitting other shows (love the one you're with!) but it just ain't the same :)
Already looking forward to hearing about Friday's show - I'm sure it's gonna kick ass! Not to mention, AFTERPARTY!!!
You prolly know more than most of us Ponz,,,,you pick a place for us! Luckily the DAT tapes I ordered arrived yesterday. I've taped at the Hiro before so I'm assuming that there's no house rule against it. Will bring stealth mic just in case!
Hah. That is the one that I was scoping out myself. It all depends on when i get there, but we should use that joint as a starting point...not far from the venue, food and cheap booze.
Dirt Road Almost Home Its All Over Now Annie Tenn Down On Your Luck Happy Birthday Ricky Banter Alone On The Weekend NYC Found (Loud!!!) Abeline (smokin) Bad Bad Man Slat Creek > Woman On The Interstate (cool Sax intro Jam by Jay Wall) Strikes And Gutters (Acoustic intro just Blake) band kicks in at the bedroom tells a story line) Turn The Light Off (Everyone is getting Doiwn) Cat & Mouse (Night Train) I Wanted To Get High (Yarn Does The Blues) Music's Only Outlaw > For What Its Worth > Music's Only Outlaw (Andrew is Killing it) The Band is on Fire
Not sure if it got recorded. I saw a guy wearing a hat that said archive.org and a moe. tee shirt but sadly he did not record. This one drunk 20 something year old kept going on and on about how it was his 1st show and was blown away. He wanted to sign the band to a record deal. This show had a lot of 1st timers "newbies" that had there faces melted off. They came to drink at the bar but ended up on the dance floor getting down. One guy kept wanting to hear I wanted to get High. Blake finally played it at the end of the night for him. The merch guy had no idea what anything cost so when people started to buy merch he freaked out for a second. Then I showed him the sign with the prices. At one point early on during the show Jay wall looked at Andrew and started to smile from ear to ear. Then he had this look on his face like Holy Fuckin Shit. Andrew just started shredding on his Mandolin and melted Jay walls face off. Last night the band was as good as anybody. Not only was it the best Yarn show I have ever seen but it may be the best show I have ever seen by anyone. I have seen Eric Clapton, the Who, The stones, The Dead and so on.... I don't know what it is that Yarn needs to "Make it" but man do they have something special going on. Each member brings something different to the table then they put it all together and become 1. Killer songs, killer jams, and a whole lot of ESP going on. The 2 opening acts flat out sucked. They both sounded nothing like Yarn and had awful sound. Surprisingly when Yarn took the stage all the feedback went away.
thanks for the review Earl- man I'm jealous ... oh so jealous. Glad they rocked the house last nite - not surprised a bit though ... Man I'm hating living in Europe :( I want me some YARN!!
Don't be jealous...and don't believe everything you read. The band sucked. Song selection sucked. Set pacing sucked. Solos sucked. Vocals sucked.
Openers were better.
There...feel better?
What's that song again? "Lies I've Told"? Yup...all lies.
earlbny summed it up very well. Ain't nothing like seeing them in NYC, man. Crazy energy coming from the stage. Great opening to Dirt Road. Just love what Jay Wall brings to the band, just too bad it's only the hometown gigs you see him at. That sax brings a whole new dimension...very enjoyable.
Good to see everyone again...even Shanna and Brian...awesome!
We had Jay Wall at the Raleigh NYE show. He's welcome to come back for the Christmas Ball in Charlotte. I ended up going to Atlanta to see another band that really needed butts in seats Saturday night.
Sounds like y'all had a blast.....no surprize there. We're fine, just both of us didn't feel well and a ton of family reposibilities took over and we had to bag. Will def make Albany and Hartford next month.
Whew - I'm so glad to hear it was taped! Knew the boys would bring down the house! (And apparently a huge disco ball too!) Wish I could have been there!
When I 1st arrived the place was filled with High School/middle School kids. The opening band was a bunch of kids. Once they finished the place emptied out. The 2nd opening band played to an empty room. There were maybe 20 or so people on the floor. Most were hanging at the bar. I was worried that I would have the whole floor to myself once Yarn took the stage. However the place seemed to fill up as the night went on. More people then I expected. It was not sold out. Not even close but still a decent amount of people in attendance. People actually left the bar and made there way to the dance floor to get there groove on. The band did not even have to work the crowd all that much. They danced and clapped on cue all on there own. After the show I witnessed people talking to the band and telling them that it was there 1st show and they are officially hooked. One drunken college kid tried to offer Blake a record deal.
Not only did they have a Disco Ball but after the show they set up some stripper poles. I did not stay to find out what they were used for. I think the place turned into a night club.
Thanks Trevor. You rock. Who's better then you? Now I am excited to be able to relive the show.
