    Hey All:

I had about the most wonderful night last night. Yarn came and played at my home in Tenafly, NJ. On my front lawn, in fact. A Yarn Yard party. :-) I'm not a taper, but I purchased a Zoom H1 recorder for the performance, which was sublime. Two long sets. I'm listening to the recording now and it sounds pretty damn awesome (based on my amateur opinion and very limited taping experience). Blake suggested I reach out to the community, to see if one of you might be able to help me edit this recording. It's just two long recordings, no breaks for song separation. Can anyone help me bring this show to the rest of you? :-) Other than a few planes overhead, and some child related interruptions, the show, and I think this recording, was excellent.

If no one else jumps in spinner, I can prolly give it a quick run through for ya after I get the audio done for RC mauch chunk Video. May be a week or two so someone else may be able to help a little quicker. If not, I'm more than happy to give it a whirl.

Thanks guys. :-) It really was a special evening, in the way that I'm sure everyone on these boards can appreciate. :-) Would love to get the show out to everyone as soon as possible. Appreciate the offer of help bgreen, and if no one else wants to take tackle it sooner I'd love for you to work on it. So thanks again, and just let me know if there's anything I need to do beyond just sending you the recording (via yousendit.com maybe??).

It was a bit of a surprise, but Trevor showed up also, so we had the full band, with all those lovely harmonies.

    Mark.

I can help. I've been cranking shows out like crazy lately. I still have a large backlog, but Yarn jumps to the front of the queue, generally. My email is sneakroute at gmail.com if you need to get in touch. Do you know what file type (wav, mp3), bit depth and sampling rate you recorded at?

Well speaking of Yarn Parties spinner, I know how you must feel. They played here last week and it was an awesome experience. I thank hopped for taping it and I hope to have a DVD copy soon which I will have no problem passing along as long as it is ok with the band.

Thanks Hoppedup. Yikes - I think I recorded at a very high bit rate. 96/24? Large WAV file. I'm just coping it to some of my personal media now and it's like over 4GB.

If you think you can take it on now I'll send you the file, though I'm not sure how I send so large a file. :-)

    24/96 is good :)

I have a drop box or an FTP server set up I can let you guys use to get the files moved around. Lemme know if you would like to go that route and I'll set you up an account.

I'm pretty sure fyels.com allows files up to 9GB, but if you could convert to flac that would make it faster to up and down.

I use Trader's Little Helper to encode wavs to flac, make torrents, do checksums. It's not a bad tool to have if you plan on taping and processing your own stuff at some point. You could also open it in a free audio editing program like Audacity and export as flac. Lots of ways to do it.

I'll see what I can do convert it to flac first. I think I can figure that out. I hope. :-) Thanks again guys.

Okay guys. I *think* I just converted it to Flac. Says it's now 54.4 MB. Can that be right?? When I converted it I requested to create a single flac file (from 4 files).

If that sounds right (the size of the file that is) just let me know how you'd like me to send you the file. And thanks again so much for the help with this!

If you convert to flac at level 8 (the highest level of compression), you should get files that are anywhere from 35 to 45 percent of the original file size, IIRC. So 54.5 MB is way too small for a 4GB file. If you can't get it worked out, just send the wav file. Does your recorder do seamless file splits at 2GB? A lot of recorders do.

Hmm. Not sure that the recorder does a file split at 2GB. :-( And not sure what to make of the file size. I used an audio converter. I'll give it another shot before I resort to sending the WAV.

    Back to you soon. :-)

Okay. Tried it again and it appears to be about 700MB now. Do you want to first see this file, before I concede failure and send the WAV. ;-)

Still seems a little small. Just send the wav. I'll download it when I get home today. We'll work on the conversion stuff next time.

What audio converter are you using? I mentioned Trader's Little Helper because the GUI is pretty simple. Flac frontend is pretty easy as well .

It's one that existed on my wife's computer. I think it's just called Audio Converter. Clever name. ;-)

Thanks again, Hopped. Where should I send the WAV? And sorry for not succeeding with the conversion.

Use the fyels site linked above. It should give you a link when it is uploaded that you can send me. If that doesn't work we will use bgreen's dropbox.

That'd be great, bgreen. :-) I'm having a little trouble getting the files up. I've been dragging and dropping all 4 of the files, but the link I receive seems to be for too small a file size. Like it's uploading only one of the files, not all of them. Any tips, or should it be just super simple. Sorry for my ineptitude on this.

For these types of sites, you can only do one file at a time. You can make a zip file of the four files together and that should work.

Was having problems. Just got a dropbox and I'm uploading the WAVs right now. 3 of the 4 files already up. 4th taking a little time. Will let you know the login and password for the dropbox when the last file is up (it's a public box, nothing confidential in there). You can just pull it out of the box when it's done. :-)

Grabbing the files. Your recorder does split at 2GB.No problem to paste together in post. I always run at 24/48. As much as I tape I'd need some serious storage to go 96 all the time.

Great! Thanks again, Hopped. Yeah, I thought about afterward and realized that the first and third file are exactly the same length. Too coincidental. Like you said, the recorder split when it hit 2GB.

Note that in the first song a plane travels overhead, and it's pretty noticeable. There are a couple times when planes fly by, but they're less noticeable. Be curious to hear what you think of the recording and the show!

I'm still floating on air today. :-)

bgreen - I think Hopped may be backlogged. Would you still be interested in/available to edit this acoustic performance and get it up to the community?? Of course it was at my home, so I consider it special, but I do really think it'd be a good show for any Yarn fan to add to their collection. The stripped down, very intimate format and all. :-) Let me know if you have the bandwidth.

Of course, if anyone else wants to lend a hand please let me know.

    Thanks all!

    Spinner,

I have about 8 multi tracks left from a few weekends ago and a project to work on for Reckless. More than happy to take a stab at it later this week after I have them tied up if you would like though.

Only if you can, bgreen. Really don't want to put you out, and I suppose trying to edit the recording down and put it onto archive would probably be a healthy experiment. :-) If you cant get to it this week let me know and I'll take a stab at it myself.

    Thanks man.
