This would be a great time for some of y'all yankees to git yer butts down to Carolina, drink some sweet tea, eat some barbecue and listen to some damn fine pickin' 'n' sangin'.
June 24 - Private acoustic show in Hickory NC June 24 - Free outdoor show in Morganton NC June 25 - Double Door Inn in Charlotte NC June 26 - The Rooster's Wife in Aberdeen NC
RC, you could pass right through my hometown of Greensboro on your way home. You would probably like the menu at one of our local watering holes: RC's favoritest menu ever
If that doesn't work for you, I highly recommend the July 15/16 combo of Raleigh Pour House/OBX Brewing Station.
Come on down and get some Yarn... the house party is at my house and you are more than welcome to come... I am a born and bred Yankee living here in the south.
Ha, I didn't open that menu link yesterday hopped.....very funny.
News is not so great in the Ryan Adams world this week. For unknown and unexplained reasons, he has shut down all taping including audience taping after 15 years of allowing it. My buddy at worked just asked me if I saw last night's setlist from his show in Ireland.
I will admit I had no clue about the menu names until someone else pointed it out to me.
I almost skipped the Jason Isbell show here because he abrupty halted taping. He even made some smart-ass remarks about tapers. I went after he explained that taping would be back, which usually means the artist is working on new material or recording for a live album. He was good, but I wasn't blown away (like I was with Yarn). My friend's band opening was the push that got me there. I think I left four or five songs into Isbell's set.
When I told Brouche I wasn't going he asked if a band is not worth seeing just because they don't allow taping. That is not the case. But it is quite rude for an artist to do a 180 on their policy with no explanation to tapers other than remarks like "You don't work here." and, "Enjoy the show for once." I got news for you Jason, tapers usually enjoy the show more than the douches who yell at each other over the music all night. And maybe he doesn't owe us anything, but I won't be back. Not because of his policy, but because I can see better bands for less money.
And yes, as a taper, I'd rather go to a show that I can tape. There are so many bands that encourage it and actually thank tapers that I just don't have to go to see those artists that don't.
My buddy who's also a fan of Isbell said the same thing hopped.....it was really insulting commentary from Jason and shit, if you look up "stagnant" in the dictionary, 400 Unit setlists come up!
How many shows have they done that horrible cover of Psycho Killer? ;)
Saw this over on taperssection.com, reposted from panicfreaks. I have no idea if it's RA, but that's what it's purported to be:

The deal with taping is very simple and I can hardly believe I have to explain it but here goes. Some, (many) of these venues were not used to, or opposd to taping secions. I am doing a solo tour obviously which means there are just only so many people to deal with issues like securing a taping friendly area. It takes up time and it takes up reseources I dont have. We are traveling by train, by bus, by plane, however we can to get to all these places witn enough time to pull off the show. Meanwhile it takes time to explain to each and every venue why and what a taper is. Its not normal for bands. I know to GD, phish, metal fans it is but most of these places have a production crew locally hired actually assembling the p.a. Before a gig. Some of the halls arent active with shows. Some only plays etc. These shows are Seated, Numbered seats in old ass places with eisles. It just isnt fair to the people behind you if you have microphones or are sticking your i phone screen up. It sucks the energy from your area and people have to deal with that shit. Some of them people are old and not just me! .............. Also, if everyone is taping the show on their i phone, how rude is that? How rude is that for people who paid to see the gig who dont do computer shit. They have to stare at your i phone screen? Cmon, there are so many bootlegs. Does it really have to turn into some dramady because one tour, on one small solo tour we ( the venue, myself, the crew ) people to chill? I dont think that is such a big deal folks. I understand that you feel entitled and I also think that despiste being batshit about livestuff for years I have been pretty helpful with this stuff. I never said I was reaonable either, by the way. I mean, i play guitar for a living some in some ways you gotta hope i am not. But you know, I will always help yall record shows. Esp the rock. But this one, I just want this one to roll smooth and for people to be happy. Lastly I am taping the shows myself. Why? I was gonna give the good shit to you at some point. Christmas? When the new record drops? I dunno. I dont frankly see the point really because despite all the trouble there are a bunch of old people who dont know what the fuck the RAA is or anything online is, for that matter, that are complaining about dealing with i phones in their face after gigs. Its really lame. Was I gonna sell it to you? I dont think so. Its tunes already out there. I got enough stuff for sale. Cmon yall. I am like wuch a marginal figure in rocknroll with an even more marginal tiny label that isnt the cool label nor the one busting out charted records. I am just doing my thing. Im just trying to do some cool stuff and this is one of those dumbass things. Thats all. ............... So I know there is plenty of shit in here to tear me down over but at least you know what is what. Im tired and have other shit to do. Please chill. Come see a gig and you know the world is a pretty grim fucking place lately, put down the battle axes and the laptops and go see some great music. Peace, srsly, love 2 yall R Ps....how in the fuck do you make this shit in here have paragraphs. For fucks sake ha ha ---------------------------------
Rambling rant but sounds like he's more pissed off at everybody with a smartphone videoing the show than a mic stand at the back of the room.
Yee Haw... Yarn is coming back to the Carolina's and it is starting at my place... can't wait for the acoustic set at my house to start the weekend off .... and then Morganton later in the night.
Y'all are making me so jealous! Stuck here in Switzerland when Yarn is back home in NC ... Haven't seen them since just before I moved here in December - that's the longest I've gone since I got hooked in 2009. Jonesing big time ... ENJOY!!
I'm pretty sure I'll be at four of them. Have intentionally not listened to any recent recordings with new songs. I want to hear them fresh with no expectations.
I do have Wifi, so streaming we can do... It may be a bit chatty as I am not sure how many people are going to be here it could be around 60. There will be a bunch of kids who are very excited to see Yarn... should be interesting. But with that said, Yarn will be exposed to a lot of new listeners. Hopped, what do you need from me for your set up? I think it will be nice enough and cool enough to set the boys up on the deck.
Oh man, so happy for all you folks....wish I could have swung down but it's not in the cards this time. I've been back and forth on which of the new songs are my faves but shit, they're all great....Maybe The Dirt Road is tops but Good Lady and Along The Way are fantastic too. Glad 'ol Hopped will be there to work his recording magic!
Streaming Sam Robinson & The Groove Elaters from last Friday night now. Vocals aren't great but Sam has some guitar chops. There are three Skynyrd covers, but their original drummer is pounding the skins here, so it's actually pretty cool.
Mostly covers, but good ones, Franklin's Tower, Voodoo Child, Fat Man in a Bathtub, Free Bird (and I dug it), etc.
What a beautiful NC day for a couple of Yarn Shows.... I am glad those of you that can't be here will be able to stream the show... going to be a fun day and night.
Looks like they added a late night show at a venue here in Morganton. I'm taping Yarn three times in one day. And no longer driving home tonight. Woot woot!
Wow... three Yarn shows in one day. Acoustic at my house, Two sets @ Morganton Friday Night Concerts, and a late night set in an old theater. Unbelievable day of music. THanks for taping hopped. The kids at the house party loved Yarn, we had one singing Down on Your Luck with the boys, and even got the kid friendly version of "I Wanted a Piece of Pie" The show in Morganton was great, looked like there were 600-700 people there and the crowd had a good time. After set was short and sweet, got "The Dirt Road" just insane and a great version of Helpless. Thanks Yarn for doing what you do best, can't wait to hear the recordings. Another show tonight.
Well, tous, by the time the third show started, I was pretty toused. So I'm listening to it now for the first time. I'll probably get it done first as it is a short set. Rockin' Dirt Road on this one, RC. I'll try to get it on archive before I leave for Charlotte.
The house show I missed recording the first couple of songs because I was trying to make sure the stream was going and forgot to push the record button twice.
The free show on the courthouse lawn was great. Recording sounds mighty fine. I think half of Morganton was there, which is great exposure. If people hadn't kept buying me beer, I'd probably have a sharper memory of the last show. Just to make sure I was completely saturated we stopped at Catawba Valley Brewing and grabbed a pint before the late set at The Place. The Place is a cool venue. An old movie theater with damn good sound, as it is run by Josh from Codex, who probably runs sound at every event in Morganton.
So, it looks like 5 Yarn shows in three days. Ain't that a sin.
The venue tonight is less than ideal for recording, so I'll probably run stage lip and board feed. Beer selection is crappy, too. That didn't stop me at the house concert and courthouse show, but it will tonight.

No rubbing in today.... Just reporting that the boys played another hot show in Charlotte last night. 3 Hours, 1 set, The Dirt Road gets better and better every time.
I am exhausted, but it was worth it. The Rooster's Wife was a great venue last night. A little feedback here and there, but overall great sound. I ran my rig and a buddy's Franken-NAKs>Zoom H4N. Listening now, it sounds great. That fiddle player from Tiller's Folly is great. I stood outside for most of the show because it was so hot in the building itself. They had two large doors open where you could still see inside and had a relay speaker outside. I'll have to go back and check, but I think we got all of the Morning Songs this weekend.
Oh yeah, Morganton courthouse lawn TGIF show is up:
So that's 29 Yarn shows at 22 unique venues in 16 cities in 5 states with 5548 miles driven. 28 of 29 shows taped by me.
Oh, and the Double Door Inn show was among the rockinest good times I've had at a Yarn show even though I stayed sober and stressed out over drunk chicks trying to knock down my stage lip mics. The guys were on fire and the crowd loved it. I saw a lady buy 7 or so CDs, with multiple copies of Come On In. She was gonna Yarn-bomb some folks. The Loudmouth Josey Wails went back to his old break dancin' ways, even breaking out the Worm.
All five of the Yarn shows I saw this weekend were great and all had a different vibe. Good times. I recommend not missing an NC run, folks.
Hopped I have to agree with you about the Charlotte show... I was stone sober, drank mostly water and damn did I have a blast. I don't think anyone got a picture of us both holding our water so we are good. See ya soon.
Sounds like Yarn had a killer NC run. I love bobby but Jay did his thing. I have seen Yarn close to 30 times but have yet to leave NYC. lol Yarn is indeed the best band in the whole fuckin world. Too bad nobody else knows that or seems to care. BTW That Dirt Road is SMOKIN! FIRE! Sombody needs to play that song on all the classic rock station in America.

Hopped, they are playing Sept. 24 @ French Broad which is a saturday. No dates for the Thurs or Friday yet... think I may need to get them back, maybe the Saturday afternoon.
Here's a little video I took of most of You Don't Know How it Feels from the last show on Friday night at The Place.... It isn't great, but check it out if you want to.
