What a weekend. Three shows, three different parts of the state, three completely different venues with one AMAZING band. I'm sure hopped has the set list but there were a couple of new songs thrown out this weekend. A little tired from the late night and log drive home today so I'll try to give a better recap later. Or maybe I'll just chime in on hopped's post when it comes.

I caught a bit of what's going around. I was a trooper yesterday and did a lighthouse, Wright Brothers Memorial and Jockey's Ridge. And did all the driving back to Greensboro. I'll post set lists and my thoughts in a bit. Friday night's set is ready to track. May get both shows done today. We'll see.

I think the guys were on fire in Raleigh. Their playing was as good as I've heard. Rod and Andrew really rocked it out on the jams. Abilene was a smoker. 2 hours 45 minutes w/o a set break. They played "Almost Home" which I quite like. The new "Carolina" song is a very fun song. I like it. Kinda Buffett meets beach music, but in the best possible way.

I was really concerned when I walked in the room here. 25 foot cathedral ceilings cover with corrugated metal. Somewhat narrow room. The options for audience mics is limited. I clamped to the balcony, which is pretty far back. It sounds pretty damn good in this place and the balcony was no exception. bgreen offered the use of an articulating extension, which would have helped, but I was a little slow getting set up. I was upstairs getting my rig set up when the guys came on stage. I got the whole thing but did not have time to set up the stage rig as well. So I ran it second set. Both turned out pretty well. I almost bailed on this one because I could tell I was coming down with something and the lack of sleep from the previous two nights was catching up with me. Glad I stuck it out.

Another really solid set from the boys. There was a small, but overall enthusiastic crowd. Brouche worked the mailing list and merch extra hard. Rod's guitar was prominent in the mix and sounded really good. If they come back during the tourist season, I imagine the room will be packed.

    Dale,

sorry I wasn't quicker with the extension man. I missed the intro trying to get everything set up myself :P Had a blast though. The second night was a great show as well. Totally different feel from the pour house, but excellent in every way. I took one of my business partners down and they are both hooked on yarn now. His girl is into heavier stuff but she got sucked in quick. I have to say, it was the first time I'd ever seen headbanging to one of andrew's solos lol. Great weekend all around. Lemme know if ya ever come north Dale.

Oh, no worries on the extension. I hemmed and hawed a bit getting set up. I did have the stage lip rig ready to plop down and was just waiting for the SG to move that box of patch cables so I could plop it down. The guys went on a little sooner than expected and I was caught off-guard. Recording turned out nice. I probably should have narrowed the angle on my AUD mics a bit being so far back. This is such a fun hobby. It's like every time you tape at a new venue, you are given a new puzzle to solve. I can't wait to go back and tape at OBX Brewing Station again.

BTW, during New York City Found Blake leans over and says into my mics, "Bobby Bonhomme on drums" and then, "Disco Yarn"

For three years in a row, a group of us came up to the NW Philly area for IPA Project Day at Sly Fox in Phoenixville. They switched over to the Pale Ale project a couple of years ago and we lost interest. Now that I am a taper, I look for any opportunity to combine taping and microbrew touring, so a trip to Pennsylvania is never out of the question.

For me, that's 19 shows at 15 different venues in 12 different cities in 4 states with 4,234 miles driven in 413 days.

That's a show every 21.73 days with an average of 222.84 miles driven per show.

edited b/c I forgot about Double Door Inn in Charlotte on 9/25/2010. That's the only Yarn show I've been to that I didn't tape.

See my edit above. I forgot about DD. Audience taping there would be a waste of time anyway. Definitely chattier than Pour House.

Man, we are getting bombarded here in Central NC in April.

April 13 The Old Winston Social Club - Winston-Salem, NC (30 minutes from Greensboro)
April 15 Rives Theater - Martinsville, VA (45 minutes from Greensboro)
April 16 Cuegrass @ The Pit - Raleigh NC (1h 15m from Greensboro)
April 22 Motorco Music Hall - Durham NC (50 minutes from Greensboro)

On the April 22 date, I'm supposed to be archiving at Shakori Hills. But I was thinking of blowing that off to tape NRPS and Great American Taxi here in Greensboro. Now Yarn comes to a town near me, too. It just ain't fair, but it's a great problem to have.

I listened to the new songs over and over again. Can Blake and co write a bad song already? These songs ar great. Love the harmonica solo is Almost home. The new untitled song reminded me of Led Zepp fool in the rain. Minus the piano. Bobbys drums did. I want to move to the Carolinas and catch a Yarn show and sing along to this song.

I'll have to dig out my stats but it's 28 shows in about 20 months!

Thanks so much for all the taping and uploading Dale......can't thank ya enough~

Oh man - so jealous Hopped! Missing NC and Yarn - April looks like a fine month for sure. The Cuegrass Fest @ The Pit is a BLAST - Fine Beer, some of the best BBQ in Raleigh, and now YARN! Hope you have great weather for it. Never got to the new Motorco before I left town. Be interested to hear what it's like. Thanks to you for all the taping/upping and to you and the others for uploading Andrew's shows too. Helps with the Yarn drought here in Switzerland ;)

Whatcha up to over there Sue? Is this a permanent move for you or will you have to wait for the Yarn world tour to see 'em again?

I'm leaning toward Great American Taxi and New Riders on April 22nd. NRPS is laying it down hot recently but who knows how long they will keep going.
  4.
What about their setlists hopped? Reviewing some tour stuff last year saw them pretty stagnant. Do they still play the obligatory Panama Red evey show?

I only know the sets of the two shows I taped and they were pretty varied. The first one clocked in at just over 3 hours. They've been putting out some new stuff as well. Mostly Robert Hunter stuff. The second show I went to was shortened by the festival putting on the show. NRPS wasn't really happy about not being able to do encores. I listened to a few others from the last year or so and they were rockin'. Panama Red is in most sets, I think. When I was typing up text files for some Yarn shows recently I noticed patterns of the same songs being played quite a bit and in the same order.

@ RC I'm here in Switzerland for at least 3 years ... so it's a major Yarn drought for me. I'm majorly indebted to Hopped and all the other tapers for keeping me in the loop. Thank god for them and the Archive! Although I'm plotting to come back to NC for MerleFest at the end of April - maybe I should come early and catch some Yarn shows too ;)

Looks like they are back in NC in June:

June 24th Morganton NC Free Outdoor concerts on Courthouse Square
June 26th Aberdeen NC The Rooster's Wife

Now if only there was a town in between these two that really needed a Saturday night Yarn show. A town with a nice new venue and a couple of diehard Yarn fans who would do their absolute best to drag half the town to a show. **cough cough** Greensboro **cough cough**
