Enjoy Yarn playing 'Tennessee' in Virginia, about 100 feet from Tennessee.

Can't wait for Friday night with Big Daddy Love in Raleigh.

So hoppedup, how was the festival otherwise? Well, I'll tell ya...

    I taped the following:

    9/17:

    Yarn
    Todd Snider w/Great American Taxi
    Folk Soul Revival (meh)
    The Infamous Stringdusters (wow!)

I didn't tape Saturday but caught full sets from Uncle Monk (Tommy Ramone on mandolin!),Red Molly, Cadillac Sky, Hoots and Hellmouth, and Unknown Hinson. I was gonna catch some of the Drive By Truckers set, but their prima donna act led me to walk away and catch something else. They were introduced, and the crowd went wild. Then the house music came up. Then the house music came down. Crowd goes wild. House music comes back up. After three rounds of this, I beat it down the street for Unknown Hinson. Actually there was a gap between Hinson's sound check and show, but his stage was running late and the band had to suit up. And he stays around until every fan has their stuff signed or has a picture made with him, so I'll cut him some slack. I'll give DBT another shot at the next festival or free show they are playing. Unknown is playing here in my hometown on October 22nd, but my dumb ass is driving to Massachussetts to catch another band that night.

I was disappointed that this was a drink OR see music festival. They really should allow you to walk the streets with your beer. I gotta hang close to my gear, so this weekend was a sobering experience. We got a room three blocks away for less than $50. The few beers and street vendor food I had were good and relatively inexpensive. I'll definitely be back.

Lol! Thanks for the review hopped although you've got me and tous cringing with the DBT dis! I do get what you're saying though....they perhaps come off as a little full of themselves these days and they've mildly irked me too. That said, they kick all sorts of major ass and along with Ryan Adams and Yarn, they're in my top three acts.

"...on October 22nd, but my dumb ass is driving to Massachussetts to catch another band that night."

Well NOW we're onto some solid decision making ;) Gald you're comin' up~

Brouche thinks it would be stalker-ish to catch Yarn in Barto, PA on the 23rd. We had thought about going back through the NW burbs of Philly anyway for some beer touring, so I think it just fits in with our schedule. Some people say we're crazy to drive twelve hours to see a band. I say I love to travel and have never been to Massachusetts. I will be making several brewery/brewpub stops as well, so the Yarn birthday bash is just the icing on the cake really.

If I were a hardcore DBT fan, I'd probably cut them some slack. My friend Brouche is a big fan and he was a bit perturbed. I'm not really familiar with their music and have never seen them live. This was the first hint of ego I saw all weekend. Most bands checked and rolled right on.

Hopped up <3 Andrew and the electtric mando!!
I'm all for the 10/23 show too. My wife accused us of having a man crush or something like that! Hopefully I don't blush when I talk to the band!

I love DBT and have been to many shows and try to go to every regional show I can. I will say that I got a little annoyed with the entrance tease they did. I was hoping to catch the majority of their set and walk down the road to check out Unknow Hinson. I'll go see DBT again and I'll pay rather than wait for a festival or a free show, but I wish I had a way to let them know the tease thing is not cool at a festival. And they do kick a** live.

Man-crush!....believe me, I get the same thing.

I'm so stoked you cats are comin' North. I'm gonna take the 22nd off from work so nytime from Thursday evening on is a go. Plannin' on having quite a few details to sort out day of show.

I've seen the DBTs at least a few times and was invited to videotape their show in New Haven on 1/9/09. Synched it with a nice audio source and my buddy put it up somewhere. I can find out where if Brouche wants to check it out. I call their last album The Big Turd as that's pretty much what it is. Man, what a clunker after the masterpiece that is Brighter Than Creation's Dark.

If you find the link I'd love to have it! I'm of the opinion that things have been sliding a bit since the departure of Jason. There was a certain spark that his guitar work and song writing brought to the band that seems missing now. I think this latest album must have been a push by Patterson. I love Cooley's writing and singing and there were not enough of his songs on the new album. A video the band released about the album said that PH writes incessantly and Cooley has a song every so often, but the Cooley songs are always ass kickers that stick with you (or something to tat effect).

Back to the Bristol topic, I was worried that on hour wouldn't be long enough for people that have not seen Yarn to really understand what this band is capable of. I think they did a great job of showcasing themselves, but I do wish they could have played for a couple of hours!

"If you find the link I'd love to have it!"

Checked with my buddy who posted it and he said it went up on Dimadozen but he's not sure if it's still up as the mods there pull anything that isn't seeded for a spell. Plus, you have to be a member. So if it's up and you're a member, look for it there and if not, I can just burn it for you. I watched it again last night and man, it's really a splendid piece of work.

BTW, there's another version of this show shot by my friend who invited me into the balcony to shoot but I must humbly state that mine's better.

So lemme know how it pans out and I'll get it to you somehow.

tous, I already gave it to you, no?

Looks like the Saturday night set is up now: http://www.archive.org/details/Yarn2010-09-18.akg461

I caught Big Daddy Love in State Line Bar and Grill and the sound was not very good. I haven't listened to this yet, but if Taper Jeff got a halfway decent sound out of the venue he probably had to work for it!

Jeff was in Barto Saturday, so we should have multiple sources up on that one as well. RC, email me your address and I'll make sure to get copies to you of the Crissey Farm and Barto sets.
