I know it's a little ways off, but this board has been dead a few days. Who all is joining me at this one?
I plan to catch at least one Yarn set. I'll probably be taping but there is so much music to see that I may be bouncing around a bit. I can't see everything, but here's a bit of what I hope to catch:
Yarn Todd Snider w/ Great American Taxi Cadillac Sky Unknown Hinson Uncle Monk Holy Ghost Tent Revival Missy Raines & the New Hip
I was very disappointed. There's at least a couple of real classics on all the other albums but this one is thoroughly void. Perhaps Birthday Boy could be a grower but the rest is disposable.....and the production is horrendous. Always a terrific live band though so get in front of 'em hopped.
Going a little OT, but I saw Cadillac Sky Saturday night in Asheville and it was one of the best shows I've seen this year, and I've seen a lot. This was a high energy stompin' bluegrass and rock show.Their cover of "Video Killed the Radio Star" is at once hilarious and brilliant. And not nearly as good as their own originals. I'll probably be checking out Yarn on Friday at Rhythm & Roots and then Cadillac Sky Saturday night, as their sets overlap then.
I might catch Drive-By Truckers, but their set overlaps Unknown Hinson. Yarn at The Pour House in Raleigh September 24th has bumped me from the Unknown show at the Lincoln the same night, so I will have to figure something out. Unknown Hinson is a stealth job for tapers these days, and stealthing is a pain in the ass, so we'll see. For all the costume and hillbilly vampire schtick, Unknown Hinson is an amazing guitarist. Highly recommended.
