Great story. Welcome to the boards Dawn. I have down Yarn bombs. I have had people come up to me in parking lots with my radio blasting asking me what I am listening to. One day Yarn is going to be as big as the Dead or Phish or insert any band and not need our help. In the meantime I am doing any and every thing I can to help the band get there.
True vacation story from last week. We're at a rest stop on I-95 outside NYC and this guy in a Jerry Garcia t-shirt comes up to me while I was walking my dog and we strike up a conversation. He was traveling cross-country with a buddy and we shot the shit for a few about dogs, traffic, hockey (Bruins fan!), NYC drivers, etc.
Considering the t-shirt, I had to ask if he had ever heard of Yarn. Naturally, he hadn't but by the time he left that parking lot, he had a copy of the Strangecreek show (http://www.archive.org/details/yarn2010-05-30.adktl-sbd-mix.flac16f) which is a great intro to the band. One hour greatest hits-type set.
Check this out. My friend Lynn is a radio DJ in NJ. She hosts a show called Carnival of Song. On Saturday she played Abilene and gave me a few shout outs. Granted it’s not a syndicated radio show heard all over country it’s still pretty cool. She also said that she will be interviewing Yarn in Sept. I introduced her to Yarn and while she has yet to see them live she loves them and plays them on her show. I have never gotten a shout out on the radio before. I am on cloud 9. I will now leave you with her play list and a link to listen to Saturday’s show.

A buddy of mine who has been to the last three Yarn shows I attended was walking to a bar in Fells Point in Baltimore. From the street he heard a band covering "Don't Break My Heart Again". He didn't go in or note the name of the venue, so I have no clue as to who the band might be. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Hopefully the band gave credit to Yarn. My friend said he stopped for a second and didn't realize it wasn't Yarn until they started singing. So they must have been good players.
There are at least four of us going to Bristol. I have another friend to whom I recommended Yarn. I think he forgot about it. He emailed me recently and said he heard Yarn on the radio out in Wyoming (might have been satellite radio, so location may be unimportant) and was going to check them out for sure. I had a couple of guys from Nashville do a house concert for me Friday night. I dropped some Yarn bombs on them and they are fans now.
"We'll be back on the next Fourth Wednesday with the next Reckless Companion newsletter. Until then, catch us every Wednesday on Facebook, Myspace, and Yarn's website."
Anybody else think that a 5G link should be included on the Yarn news Page?
I understand the benefit of facebook type promotions because everyone checks their facebook quite reularly, however, Yarn items come up alongside "I'm going to the mall today" "I baked cookies....yum" and "My cat died." etc
5guitars.org used to get a mention in the news letter. I think it should get a mention. This place rocks. BTW in this Wednesday's news letter Yarn posted a link to DL a 5 song sampler. 1 of the tracks included on the sampler was a studio version of Bring Me Down. It's so good. Yarn sampler track listing.
I was sufing around when I found a few phish phans and moe.rons talking about Yarn. Not all good stuff but any mention of the band is better then none at all.
This past Saturday 9/4/10 Blake was a live in studio guest on the Carnival Of Song radio show hosted by my friend Lynn. He was promoting the Boat show. He was great. I am so sorry I never gave any of you a heads up. I managed to record the show and then upload it for all of you to listen to. The show is one big MP3 file clocking in at 2:00:01. Enjoy the show.
It was my pleasure. It was a great interview. I loved the acoustic version of S&G. I also love It's all over now. I love all of them. lol I am extra psyched as well to see Yarn on a motherfuckin' boat!
Maybe we can send Yarn compilation CD's to Country Western Outfitter stores all across the country starting with the East Coast. Urge them to play it in there stores for their employees and customers to hear. It is a shoot in the dark but what the hell. I assume there is not a lot of bands or artists doing this but then again maybe I am worng. Thanks again for all the help getting the word out everybody.
I woke up this morning to find a surprise text message from one of my friends who lives in California. My friend Jessica is the editor in chef of rolling stone magazine in training. She interviews musicians and works for a TV station as well as runs a blog. She ran into David Immergluck. He plays Guitar, Mandolin, Pedal Steel and bass for the Counting Crows. He's a super talented wacky guy. Here is what my friend texted me.
I just wanted you to know that i ran into immy tonight and gave him 2 Yarn CDs. I brought you up saying you were my best friend and die hard Yarn fan, who hooked me up. I also told him Yarn has a lot of new stuff. Immy was really excited and said he was gonna listen to my CDs immediately and check Yarn out. So fingers crossed! :)
Hey all....new member to this forum...have been listening to Yarn for a few years now, only seen one show but am seeing them this week in Florida.
How & why certain bands "make it" while others don't is (to quote Churchill) "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma". Assuming the moderator of this site doesn't mind a little cross-pollination, there's a similar thread on the RRE fan message board discussing what RRE could / should / might do to increase their fan base.
Click on the RRE DISCUSSION tab and then look for a thread titled "How can RRE grow & break out to the next level as a touring band?"
Tough times for bands for sure....virtually impossible to make money selling albums / music as everyone expects music to be "free" these days....and due to Archive/Pandora/Spotify/Grooveshark, etc., (not to mention illegal downloads) it is. I think the only way for most bands to make money today is solely through touring & merchandise.
What's the merch table like at Yarn shows? Does it look like something the band puts a lot of work & effort into, or more of an after-thought?
Welcome to 5guitars feel free to take your shoes off and make yourself at home.
While searching the web for info on Sturgill Simpson I happen to stumble upon a blog that had a post about Sturgill Simpson. I left a comment about my 1st Sturgill Show and gave Yarn a plug. You cab view the blog and my cimment at the following link.
My friend Saw David Immergluck the other night and sent me the following text.
Big news. I talked to immy yesterday and he LOVED yarn. He really liked the 2 first albums i gave him and he said he checked out their new stuff and he said he was gonna try to look them up in New York.
