Hello all! if you haven't seen it, Andrew has posted about 5 clips from the Sullivan Hall show on his Youtube page. For those of you that were there, it will bring you back to the energy, fun, and incredible night of music at a good 'ol Saturday night NYC rock n' roll gig! For those of you who couldn't make it to the big city, just hope a tape of the show surfaces, because it was that good.....
So good my friend and I are making the two hour plus drive to Albany this Saturday to see the show and check out the new drummer! Any of you making the trek up? The weather should be great, and its in Blake's original hometown...sort of (Schenectady is what? Twenty minutes away...). So cancel your Saturday night plans and make a road trip! You know you want to.... you know its worth it.....and you know you'll regret it when the reviews get posted! So who's in?
I would post them but I do not know how to grab them off of you tube and post them here. And we are tech. ed teachers Reckless! I can't post a video, and you're on dial-up! WTF? :-)
Anyway, its a shitty venue? Why. Sound bad? It looks like a cool space on their website. Any info. about the place is welcome....
The place is just a weird set up with the music room way in back separated by a hallway. The bathrooms reek...no door lock...shit like that. The sound guys struggle all night long trying to get shit right and everyone talks the whole fucking time. Aside from that it's great ;)
I would love to go except I have a part time job on Saturday nights. I took off last weekend and I plan on going away at the end of the month so I can't swing it this time. One day I will make it happen.
Yesterday neared 50 degrees and my motorcycle began to whine about comin' out so I fired it up, called up some Yarn on my ipod and took the first spin of the year...felt so good and then, off to Yarn. Had a gift cert for the Albany Pump Station and for once, we actually left with plenty of time to have a nice dinner. Fantastic place. Short drive down Broadway and we found a spot in front of Red Square. The band had already sound-checked so I set up taping gear. Kept things off to the side to avoid the chatters and upon listening back right now, it really came out awesome!
Alone On The Weekend NYC Found Down On Your Luck Bad Bad Man I'm Down Roadhouse Christopher Street Ain't That A Sin Music's Only Outlaw Mama I'm So Sorry Take Me Out Misery Don't Break My Heart Again Abeline Wanted To Get High I Gotta Go Schenectady Empty Pockets Can't Slow Down The Thrill Is Gone .... Shane Spaulding Cat & Mouse No Future Together
Was introduced to Robert "Bobby" Bonhome, the new drummer who of course is as friendly and easy going as all of Yarn. Not sure just what to say of his drumming except WOW...just wow, he hits hard and loud but has a great flow throughout. He's really learned the songs and they sure put him through the paces last night. I couldn't be more pleased that he's such a splendid fit for Yarn.....onward 2010!
Gee, I guess have to take a whole lot back that I said about Red Square. They had the sound just perfect the whole night. They also added some new lights so you could see much better and given that it was a Saturday night, there was much less of the TGIF effect of beers and loud talking after work like the last time. As I said, my recording came out just fantastic so I look forward to sharing it with y'all. This was a top notch show throughout and with a few very rare break-outs, it's gonna get a lot of listening time. I'm Down was the first surprise...couldn't believe I was hearing it start out after Blake said he didn't think they had ever played this song live before. It was as excellent as you'd expect. Next on the rare list comes Ain't That A Sin. I have been wanting to hear this live since I first heard Empty Pockets and had pretty much given up on the notion. There's just so many great songs now that no matter what they do play, there's regret about all the ones they can't fit in. Fairly rare as well is the Dear Mama I'm So Sorry and add Shane's great version of The Thrill Is Gone and there was a good amount of new material. Song of the night goes to a riiiping and stomping big version of Can't Slow Down.....holy shit this one smokes~
Nice to have a really fine show like this one as it's gonna be a couple months now before I get to Yarn it up in Manchester. Ran into jgoods briefly and we agreed that Bonhome is a really terrific addition to the band.
So Yarn's Yarn and that's that~ wish everyone could have been there....esp you Balv. Ya think you like these cats on disc?...whew you gotta see a show.
Just got up and going after the 2+ hour drive back to central CT last night! And man, oh man, was the drive worth it! I echo the sentiments of Reckless about the show. This band just gets better and better every time. I was expecting two sets, but right in the middle Blake says, "we were gonna take a break, but fuck it!" So it was two hours and 35 minutes straight through. Chatted with Andrew briefly before the show and he said there would probably be a some rare treats thrown in. That was an understatement! A first time played, plenty of new tunes (this new album is surely sounding like it will be something special), and new jams sprinkled in. A hometown show for Blake and Shane, so it was, as always, a treat to see Shane sing with the band. Looked as though they had many friends and family there to support and there was plenty of dancing and crowd interaction. They of course, loved Schenectady, with the obligatory cheers every time their hometown was mentioned.... fun stuff. Band in good spirits, Rod and Ricky B on fire, Andrew always jaw-dropping, Trevor the perfect fit, new drummer right at home, and of course, Blake playing the perfect roll of frontman with the perfect voice....
Also, Blake said the new album will be available for pre-sale ahead of the April 6th release. Said with a laugh that you might even get a "limited edition t-shirt."
Thanks for taping Reckless! Can't wait to hear it....
Gotta wait over a month for the good ol' Saturday night Main Pub gig. It can't come fast enough.....
I'm hoping that I can get this show properly mastered before too long but I can send out a copy as is (infrequent light digi pops...hardly noticable) today to jgoods 'cause it's really that fantastic. tous, I'm gonna drop one to you too but I already have your addy.
jgoods...shoot me a snail addy at johnchristinat@yahoo.com
If I get your addy by day's end, I'll toss a copy your way.
I have not heard the Albany show yet so I can't comment on the show or Mr Bonhomme. However I just got done listening to the Johnny D's show and boy did the band bring there A game. No suprise there. lol The banter about the frat kid was hysterical. The jams were insane.
Just getting to the final master of this stellar show. Damn, it's going to have to go on three CDs even though the length would fit on two. Disc one leaves 12 1/2 minutes which isn't enough to fit the Don't Break My Heart Again. I'll bring extras for the folks going to Saturday's how. Awesome sonding recording of a very well played show~
Reckless - Oh man you weren't kidding! Great sound. Excellent job on the recording and mastering. Thanks for the cds's I love hearing that show again. Abeline takes me away every time. I start remembering the first time I heard Dark Star live. Some thing about Andrew's playing and the effects he puts on it sometimes reminds me of Jerry playing pedal steel on The Wheel too. Awesome flashback material. Ricky B was smokin it up with Bonhomme big time. They all were on the mark!! It's hard to believe that it was Red Square as well. The first time I heard them there the sound was rough. The second time the sound flat out sucked. The guys pulled it off though and made it a pleasurable show despite the sound problems. This time the sound was great right from the beginning. It was a great show. Once again thanks for the tunes.Just hope I don't get a speeding ticket listening to it because every time Abeline is on in the truck I end up doing 85.
