We were seriously making plans for this one until I got a paying gig to tape an indoor festival in Syracuse. Have fun, wish we could have made it.

Count me in. I will be there with a crew as well. It will be me + 5. My buddy David & his wife, Laurel & her husband & my girl Lisa AKA LBSUNFLWR. My buddy David saw his first Yarn show at Sullivan Hall the last time around and is hooked. It's going to be a 3HR hometown party in NYC. I can't wait.

P.S. during the show it may look like I am not interested in the band and I am on the phone the whole time however I am actually using my iPod to write down the setlist.

I have told all my friends near and far about this show. However it looks like they all have to drive there sick relatives across the state of Florida that day. Why do people have to make shit up? Just come out and tell me you have listened to Yarn and they are not your cup of tea. Or that you just don't give a shit about Yarn. One day when Yarn is the biggest band in America and they are playing a 3 night run at MSG and tickets are going for lots of $$ they are going to be kicking them selves for not going to the Sullivan Hall show.

Ok, up and at 'em and about to make the trip home. What a show! Nothing like being the home team and knocking it out of the park!

Full band, including Jeremy. As for Trevor, forget what I wrote after the Somerville show about his ESPN gig...he's had that gig for three years! Between my lack of reporting skills and Rickey B's selective take on the facts :-), made a story where there isn't one. Good thing.

If you haven't been to Sullivan Hall...um, that's what it is. One big open space hall. Last time we were there (Nov) they had about 1/2 the place packed but this crowd was much bigger and louder. In a good way.

Had an opener which was originally a disappointment because they were going to take time away from Yarn but these guys were pretty damned good. The Abrams Brothers from Kingston, Ontario. The brothers are 16 and 19 with a bass-playing cousin that's 19 as well. On drums was master NYC drummer Anton Fier (has played with Bob Mould and a bunch of others http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_Fier). These guys rocked pretty hard for a band that features a fiddle as the lead! Nice covers of "When Will I Be Loved", "Sixteen" (Big star) and Coldplay. Their originals were ok, but it's hard to write and sing originals when your voice changes every week, I would imagine. Anyway, worth checking out. Very high energy in an Avett Brothers kind of way.

    http://theabramsbrothers.com/band/

Yarn took the stage to a packed hall and both the band and the crowd were ready to rock! I'll leave the setlist to earlbny to post but this was the most high-energy show I've seen from the band. The crowd kicked them into high gear for the entire 2+ hour gig. Probably the first time I've seen *every* band member psyched, sweating and playing their hearts out. Again, being the home team was amazing. Plenty of sing-alongs. I was down on the floor and it seemed like every one there knew all the words to every song.

Blake took a few videos from the stage of the crowd (and Chris's last solo with the band) so hopefully those will get posted.

Shane was there and when they called him up, I figured ok, last song and the rockin' "I Wanna Be Neil Young". Nope. "The Thrill Is Gone". Yup...BB King. Great version. Just friggin' great.

They played, what?, another 5 songs or so finishing with a rollicking Cat & Mouse. Know what, as good as the 9/11 show in Manchester was, this one beat it. Different vibe entirely. This was a Saturday night, New York City, let's party show. Just awesome.

nice to see earlbny, jgoods, Bev and some new fans there as well. No recordings, unfortunately, too busy having a good time!

Onward, upward for this band. Mrs. Tous and I vow to see them at some point in Raleigh at the Pour House but if you've never seen them at Sullivan Hall, it's worth the trip.

I second everything tous said. I will add that before the show I got to talk to Andrews mom. She was as nice as can be. She could not believe I was there to see her son play. She was smiling from ear to ear.
    Yarn 2/27/10 Sullivan Hall

    Setlist

    Alone On The Weekend
    NYC Found
    Down On your Luck
    Lies I've Told
Bad Bad Man (new Jam that was insane) (new to me anyway)
Music's Only Outlaw (sing along chorus)
    Christopher Street
Take Me Out Misery (my 1st time hearing this song live) (Blake said it was going to be on the really dark 4th record.) (It's going to be as dark as Tool) (they even got Maynard to sing on it) lol
    Roadhouse
I Wanted to get high (Sing along chorus)
Don't Break My Heart Again > Drums > Night Train > Toast to Chris > DBMHA
Thrill is gone (With Shane Spalding)
    Can't slow Down
Cat & Mouse (Shane is still half naked and still dancing on stage) (Are We Gonna get Fucked up tonight? Yes we are!)
(Band intros and solos) (Andrew does his Jimmi Teese) (Reggae Jam Something about NYC is my home) Cat & Mouse (crowd is into it very loud singalong) (Blake dropped his guitar during Cat & Mouse)

That is the setlist in a nutshell. I have been to plenty of Yarn shows where the band is looking for a call and response or audience sing along and all you hear is crickets well that was definitely not the case this time around. The crowd was into the band and they feed off of each other. The band has mad chemistry with each other and the energy in the room was electric. I always say how is Yarn going to top the last show and like always they find a way.

After the show I saw Blake outside he gave me a giant bar hug and thanked me for coming. Sigh! lol I then told him that I am not one to make request but I have a request for your next tour diary.I know this is going to be cheesey but I asked him to cover a Counting Crows song. This way my friend who had to drive his sick releative across the state of Florida might actually listen to Yarn. I have been doing everything I can to get my Counting Crows friends to listen. I felt like this might be my last hope. Blake not only said ok he sung a little bit of the Crows for me. It was too funny.

All and all it was another great night. I can't wait to do it all over again.

Yarn is my drug of choice. lol

    Peace
    Eric
