Hello all! Just saw that they posted for Sully's in Hartford for 2/12/10! This is a great venue in a good part of town for the most part. Seen a lot of very good acts there over the years. Can't wait!
We're thinkin' of Cambridge, Northampton & Hartford. There's another band at the Iron Horse show though. 10PM start (which really means 10:30 as there's another show that night) + another band doesn't leave a whole lot of time.
jgoods, I was in Canton yesterday and toyed with the idea of checking out Sullys but I didn't get a chance.
May I ask what the sight lines are for Sullys? I'm thinking that I may try to shoot video again since it's been a spell. How do you think that might work out? Never been there~
Hi Reckless, the sight lines are pretty good. The stage is low, with a dance floor in front, table son the outside. then 15 feet from the stage you go up two steps to the U shaped bar with more seating up there. Some of those seats are slightly obstructed, but you should be able to get a good spot on the lower half for sure.
Can't slow down Tennessee Alone on the weekend New York city found Take me out misery Let's get dark Bad bad man Lies I've told Christopher St Music's only outlaw

......so yarn, well after waiting many weeks for this show, I happened to get sick just in time for it. Could have called in to work but I had to assist in coordinating a professional development day for 60 teachers so that wasn't an option. Got through the day and truly, it would have taken quite a bit for me to miss this one. Did my best to stay away from everyone~
Arrived with a friend and his wife for their first experience with yarn and of course, got to see our usual gang of Connecticats. The food was great and the place quite small....great layout though with the bar area raised and to the back so the chat wasn't too apparent from stage center. Very pleased to see the master audio guru who is John D there. I know he tapes and masters lots of stuff so I hope he can get to this one for us. I set up my usual rig front left and got a pretty decent snag...y'all know what my stuff sounds like by now. I think I recall John saying that he had some iffy levels off his board feed but I don't know what result that will have on his.
The show started late so it didn't stretch too long....kinda made me wish I'd taped the first sound check song which was Shape I'm In. When I heard the opening note to Final Bow, I started rolling.....man I never tire of that simple short tune. First time hearing Chris on the skins and also the first time I heard an electric version of the slow version of Can't Slow Down. Terrific on both counts. Chris really has fun and shakes it up back there. The sound in general was splendid.
Highlight of the show for me was the Misery/Dark combo. First time hearing them both and as earlbny says, these guys don't write/play a bad tune. Take Me Out Misery was the more immediately accessible of the two but I suspect that Let's Get Dark is a real grower.....just awesome the both of them. Really sharp playing to finish the set. The guys took a brief break but got right back to it. Again, the setlist (thanks jgoods) reads somewhat common but the playing was just fantastic. Second time hearing On The Road live and it's another favorite. The Wanted To Get High and Strikes & Gutters closed things out to end another great gig....my 12th.
Thanks Yarn and all y'all and I'll see you at the Iron Horse in two weeks
I didn't catch the name clearly....thought it was John something...but I did snap a nice pic of him and Rod. I'll e-mail it and a couple of others to the band and they can forward/post it. It was pretty cool at the show and goes to show just what a monster of a song Music's Only Outlaw is as I've heard a number of different transition segments and they all work well. Really keeps that song interesting.
What up on your recording John? My CD burner leaves occasional light pops on recordings so I'm waiting for Jack to return from vacation to use his. I did lay down just the misery/dark from set one and it sounds pretty decent...thanks as always for your assistance.
Ha ha! Actually, I strayed wide last Friday. I take each February off from drinking but given that my first Yarn show in many weeks took place AND the venue stocked my favorite whiskey that I don't see anywhere else, I made a slip and got all hammered up! Not to worry...back on the wagon at least till next Friday/Yarn!
Powers Irish Whiskey is the finest whiskey I've had at any price~glad you enjoyed it. I bought up the band a round too!
Again regarding the show - I'll master my copy of it sometime next week.....sample sounds decent.......unless John D surprises us with something better.
what i have is great music, vocals are a bit off. christine on fire. soon something i hope. want to send it off to bgreen. with me its never a rush........
Since I don't know when I'll be able to get my copy mastered on Jack's deck, I used mine. My Tascam leaves infrequent little digi pops here and there. I don't find it all that annoying...literally maybe 6 of them per disc and not too loud but I'd like to wait for a truly clean copy befopre I mail it to bgreen to go up at archive.
Anyway, there's few things more annoying among tapers than one of us describing a mediocre recording as excellent but I will say, this copy of mine sounds pretty damn good so I'm looking forward to getting it out to you guys. Vocals are nice and clear~
